As for the Santana argument, what do you want him to do? Play dh and move Pronk back to a position he hasn't played since the Berlin Wall crumpled? Because La Porta should not even be in the discussion. Santana over la Porta any day of the week and any of you would agree with that I would hope. Santana is our second best -- maybe third -- overall hitter in the lineup as he can take line drives opposite field and gone and he's an on-base eater. laPorta is a HUGE disappointment. I would argue that Duncan is more valuable right now than him. LaPorta is the one guy who if he was playing as projected would have us in first place. In any event, Carlos might be a liability at 1b or c, but he's still very, very green. I hope, in the offseason, we dump LaPorta and go after a guy like Ianetta from Colorado. Myabe ven teach Manahan to play 1b. In the long run, it's cheaper and safer. LaPorta is the biggest risk on the team. And he sure ain't no Fred McGriff, either.

Kipnis is like having a super-stacked double-dose of David Bell when he was with Cleveland year one. And much, much more. We knew what we were doing chasing Orlando out of town.

I hope he figures it out, but right now he is just as somebody else stated an arrogant, hard headed prick( or so he comes off as) He has all the talent but is Lazy and LaPorta kind of seems the opposite, tries, acts like he cares, but it seems the talent just isn't there....yet......hopefully........


For the record I'm not really advocating LaPorta over Santanna. Its more of an advocation for Defense over Offense, which LaPorta has the edge on. Its just the difference between them defensively isnt that big so its really not that big a deal unless you are in the later stages of a close game you are winning.

The defense you get from Maarson over Santana behind the dish at a far more important defensive position outweighs the edge LaPorta has over Santana at 1B. And no way you can take Santana's bat out of the lineup.

I realize how raw Santana is and his gidp ability, but LaPorta is like the generic version of everything Carlos is. La Porta strikes out as much as anyone and pitchers, from May to recently, throw him balls that land low and away. The couting report on LaPorta was obviously known and known well. He has improved on his plate discipline in the range department, but aside from his walkoff last week, what has the dude done? Zip.

I agree...Santana is a cocky sunnofa and he needeth change his personna. He still couldn't sniff Victor in his prime and he should model himself after Vmart. VMart played the game right. I have to contend that Carlos is going to be a better power hitter than Victor tenfold, but he has yet to show us the intangibles that Victor definitely had. Victor called the shit outta a game. Carlos seems to have issues with his pitchers and lacks that control...he'll get that. I hope. Whenever I watch him catch Carmona, it's like watching Amos and Andy or something. It's bad. It's two guys who both seem to be ignorant of the game within the game. Actually, Carlos reminds me of the hitting version of Carmona.

Nonetheless, we should cut ties with LaPorta by next season if he doesn't improve. He's not THAT young and played college the same time Buck did. He's now or never. Again, I am for cutting LaPorta and getting a catcher. Tons of catcher free agents for next year. Get a platoon guy at first. Let Carlos catch 1/5 days and the new catcher be the other 4 and be a catcher only (not a guy who plays first). It would be nice to have a 1B who can add veteran presence to this ballclub...ala Eduardo Perez. I love the kid, but that means that Lou is gonna have to be a trade piece. If we could pull a deal with Colorado, wouldn't it be great to have a guy like Todd Helton (who would HAVE to play 1b/dh more than just 1 day of week) along with Ianetta? We'd have to trade handsomely, but whether we get those two or not...this is the kind of deal I am talking about. Santana, a full-time helluva game calling catcher who can add offense, and a 1b who can help Santana get better at that position. Easier said than done...but that's what I, personally, am in the market for when it comes to this team.
