Masterson Fister would be a great name for a Bond villain.

Need two of three this week, boys. Time for the two aces to be aces so the Verlander game is just icing.

They need all three. Scared to death they made The Move too early. It's time to squeeze their nuts together and get it done.

The sense of urgency has to be redlined for this series.

I think for them to have a good chance they need to sweep. To even stay in the discussion they need two.

That final three-game set does give the Indians a false sense of security that they can be two or three back going into that final week. We know the reality is they need to have a game or two cushion if they want to win the division. A three-game set in Detroit with that on the line will not be a good situation if you need to win all three.

There are 47 games left (or whatever). If they got SWEPT in this series they'd still remain alive and viable.

People are putting too much into this.

They went 3-4 on a roadie to two of the best teams in the game and lost all four in the opponent last at bat.

The same thing that hurts them helps them the remainder of the year and that's their collective youth and naivete.

They need to play well. Two wins would be great. Three would be tremendous. 1 wouldn't change things much at all from today.

Perspective. If they pitch well and hit and play good defense they'll be in the race. If they don't they could somehow sweep this series and still not sniff October.

There is that feel to this series isn't there? Its as if they're on the verge of putting it together.

They still have 12 games left against the Tigers this year. Yes, this is only 3 of them but I think they're a psychologically important 3 for the team. If they get swept they are 7 back, and that's it for the team. If they sweep, they are just 1 game back, with a new lease on life.

Gotta at least take 2 out of 3.

Agreed. Losing this series would be Bad News Bears. But I really see this team pulling together. The offense is coming alive, our SP is still strong. If only that damn bullpen can get back on track, and we have a pretty formidable team. I promise nobody would want to play this team in the first round in a short series. Our top 3 SP's I would take over any of the contenders in the AL.

Edit- With the exception on LAA. But I dont think they make the playoffs anyhow. Texas probably wins the West again imo.

Disagree Peek. Young team, losing frequently as of late, and in late innings, I think they need to go into this thinking do or die.

It's more about the attitude than the outcome.

Tricky situation- if they go balls out and lose, what does that do to the team confidence?
If they play it cool, and keep saying "get 'em tomorrow" they'll quickly run out of tomorrows.

At this stage, I think I want them looking at this like a playoff series. For this team, gaining experience in the playoffs will be too late. Fight like hell now.

Turn it around for just a second: if the Indians were 7 up after this series would you consider the Tigers dead?

I think their youth works for them right now.

Guys like Chsnhl and Kipnis are just playing man. They haven't had time to catch their breath. That might be their advantage. That and the fact I trust the Indians pitching staff more than I do the Tigers' staff up and down.

It's important. But it's not an elimination series IMO. I understand why some people feel differently.

Different team makeup. Apples vs. oranges in my opinion.

Perhaps some "chicken little" in my opinion, but if they crap out next year (possibly because of lack of experience in high pressure situations) what's the odds of Ubaldo being dealt in late July of the next season?

It'll be interesting to see if Brantley comes out to play D in the 2nd.... wincing on every swing in the first AB.

Carlos has to at least get the runner home.... anything but a DP Carlos.

Fister gets a lot of grounders though.

Anyone else find it mildly irritating that Hafner didn't attempt second on the throw home?

He doesn't have to tag, there's less than 2 outs, if he takes a few steps off the bag, the throw is cut guaranteeing Acab scores. If the throw goes through, he can get to second. Even if he's slow.

The essence of the game threads. At least when you've seen about 600 of them.

I think 500 is probably the human limit.

Yeah. I guess it did. I don't need over analysis either. But something more than just type-written equivalent of the first freaking thing that crosses one's mind wouldn't suck. ;-) ;)

Grounds crew is sweeping off the tarp, rain has slowed substantially, fans returning to seating area, Hoynes snoring at his table, professional writers paying bills by e-bank and I'm drowning in lemonade and iced tea.

If they can start within half hour Masterson might be salvageable for the night. If not that will not help the Indians cause.
