When was the last time we had THREE thirdbasemen with just a 25 man roster?

I remember in '95 we had Thome, Espinoza, and Herbert Perry but cannot recall any others.

And why exactly do we need three third basemen? I know Donald will also play his natural 2nd, but I just am perplexed by it.

Donald's natural position was actually SS. He's basically our utility infielder. Hannahan is mostly a defensive replacement at 3B and maybe 1B right now.
