SD:

The current roster was manipulated to this state by two years of Heckert .

It was a shambles when he inherited the chaos of Mangy , chock full of overpaid over age Jets and rookies he drafted as starters who couldn't make a good teams practice squad, close to the cap because of all the old veteran contracts beret of talent due to his poor draft and free agent acquisitions .

SD:

you really are quite emotional aren't ya .

As such you execute your mouth like a cunt instead of utilizing your other senses like hearing and logic.

Heckert inherited one of the oldest rosters in the NFL after the mangy purge what supposedly saved us from cap hell as he executed his so called fiscal responsibility .

However the fiscal responsibility drum you've been beating more than your gums have been flappin in your ever worsening responses , don't add up .

The fiscal responsibility is a myth , because wait for it now , he exchanged a fw high priced contracts dumpig guys who wouldn't kiss his rig for a shit load of overpriced contracts .

Like a magician with children you actually thought he conjured up a rabbitt and your so proud to tell me you know the real deal .

So your claims are not Newtons new law, just the exposure of your shallow depth and understanding of the true picture , the one that define the true reality of the figures you've misconstrued to fit your own crack pot theorem.

In short Garcon , you just done been Bullshitted again.

^ too stupid to understand the concept of "CONTRACT LENGTH" and needing to plug vets in for the first few years while aquiring young talent.

Honest question Peeks, when is the last time SD jumped into a thread on this board and didn't turn it into this?

Not calling for him to get banned or anything like that, but he is nothing if not consistent.

SD:

I tied it into his credit for purging the roster and deducted the credit commensurate to the damage created by his utter failure to upgrade and replace those talents lost .

I make it a negative .0000000000000000001 to the 100 th power .

Course if you need a rehash , we'll probably have to take it to no holds barred , because I highly doubt PUP is in the mood for our lady like discussion especially as it also involves eyesore and myself.

I really have no idea what that has to do w/ fielding a team w/out locking anyone up long term or blowing money.

You do understand that short term vets have nothing to do w/ anything, right?

And again, how many of those players has HECKERT HAD TO CUT.

PS: You may want to think real hard about who signed Delhomme.

I'm not framing this as a Mangini versus Heckert thing at all. Not trying to explore the past. Just saying this team is as young as any team I ever remember seeing. It's like they are trying to build this club from the bottom up into Holmgren's vision. I suspect winning this year will have a very low priority. It's about growing your key cornerstones and building from the draft. I have to question how does this team hit the cap floor? Hopefully we'll see some extensions for Mack and Thomas.

Confused on the salary floor myself.

But I thought I heard Shefter on M&M this AM say you do not have to hit the floor until 2013? If that is the case, then I am all for holding some coin in the bank.

Frankly I don’t understand WTF they are doing.

I understand avoiding the overpriced long term guys but there are TONS of prime/entering their prime players that would fit this club signing all over the league on one year deals and these guys aren’t even bringing them in for visits.

As has been said elsewhere, it almost feels like a punt of the season for a high pick next year. No other defensible reason to ignore one year contract players that would help them win this year.

I’m at a loss.

And yeah the salary floor deal is in effect in 2013.

My biggest frustration as well. Bunkley (before it was recindend) and Greco are mid-20s guys that bring something to the table. This isn't Ted Washington or Willie McGinest just playing out the string. This team still has depth issues and it is a prime opportunity to roll the dice on some cheap low-risk, potentially high-reward guys now that could pan out for a team sorely lacking in talent and depth.

A punt of the season? How are we gonna do that now that My Man Reggie is out for the year???

Too soon? :bag:

Frankly I don’t understand WTF they are doing.

I understand avoiding the overpriced long term guys but there are TONS of prime/entering their prime players that would fit this club signing all over the league on one year deals and these guys aren’t even bringing them in for visits.

As has been said elsewhere, it almost feels like a punt of the season for a high pick next year. No other defensible reason to ignore one year contract players that would help them win this year.

I’m at a loss

Perhaps Holmgren and Heckert are also of the belief that the team's talent base is better than the 5-11 showing of last year.

This is not meant to start a debate on Mangini, Ryan and Daball vs. this year's coaches. But you have to believe that H&H think that's a major upgrade.

One thing though thats an unknown is there are players at key roles whose success/failure will determine whether we are flirting with .500 or in the hunt for the Luck sweepstakes.

We shall start to find out and it ought to be interesting.

But I thought I heard Shefter on M&M this AM say you do not have to hit the floor until 2013? If that is the case, then I am all for holding some coin in the bank.

Even when it does hit, its league wide, and not per-team.

So will that be the case from now on in the NFL: no cap floor, just this leaguewide total?

No. Just for the first two years of the new labor agreement. Starting in 2013, the league will return to a "cap floor," which is set at 89 percent of the cap. So if for example the cap in 2013 was still at $120 million, each team would have to spend a minimum of $106.8 million. No more leaguewide total. According to a report by profootballtalk.com, the Bucs have spent about $90 million in "cap" money so far this year. So if the "floor" existed this season, they would be required to spend another $16 million. But as we've explained, there is no "floor" this year.

Thanks. Its tough to keep track of it all.

I knew it was league wide now, I thought however, that it was league wide for the duration.

SD:

Teams still have immense
    latitude
as to how they arrive at that cap number , too escalators kick off the floor sooner where if 99 % of teams reach the cap or an expenditure of 3.84 billion in total contracts take root.

Teams also have two exemptions in regards to old contracts and new signings giving them a quasi transition period which equate to $3.5 million and $3 million respectfully , so in down to earth brass tacks using those exemptions the real computed hard cap is really $126 .5 million and not $120.

In any event the Browns are way below the mark , with ample room to restructure a Thomas or to take on future cap debt if they desire , if they target someone with a bi contract .

Future wise with multiple picks in the next draft and two number ones and banked free agent coin , they can definitely address shortfalls to this roster which will become all too apparent after we play this season out .

Personally , I think they're rally leaving their long terms options open , just in case , especially with Luck and Barkley dangling over the market.

They'll be in a position to jump in if they find Colt lacking , or dynamically refresh the roster if Colt pans out as all that and a bag of Chips .

Meantime we're as young as it gets as aptly noted by mistero.

Anyone at all even remotely interested in taking a run at Osi? If we could get them off the 1st round pick as compensation, it might worth a shot to get a solid DE in the prime of his career.

Sure I would take a shot at trying to get him for a 3rd and 5th, but NYG have taken him off the table. He will not get a trade out of New York....at least that's what the Giants are saying publically.

Say what you will about having faith in their coaching yogi, but no coaching in the world can help a defense that doesn't even go two deep.

I mean, well fuck, I mean I'm just dumbfounded no one year guys have visited/signed.

Are they planning to fill the two deep w/ UDFAs?

I mean they managed to keep the Eagles pipeline going and bring in one of the worst corners in the league last year according to advanced metrics and the naked eye, but short of that they literally don't have enough players to field an NFL defense w/ NFL rotations.

Cleveland Browns
Key additions: John Greco, Brandon Jackson, Usama Young
Key losses: Eric Wright, Abram Elam

Analysis: I commend the trade for Greco. He is a good guard who rarely gets recognized, and he should do well as the starting right guard. But adding Greco isn't going to instantly make Cleveland into a winner. I like the reliability in the passing game that Jackson provides both as a receiver and in protection. But where is the flash? Where are the difference-makers? Where is the pass rush going to come from? This is a team that seems to value quantity over high quality with personnel decisions, but overall, the Browns are lacking star power and difference-makers. This free-agency period didn't help that situation. It amazes me that they haven't done more.

Grade: D

Worst off season grade in the AFC. According to Matt Williamson, ESPN Insider.

Only thing I'll say about that is I am fine relying only on the draft to aquire star power.

But when it comes to putting a team on the field w/ enough NFL level players I'd like to see FA used a bit and to take some 1 year contracts on high upside guy shots.

It really almost seems like they are tanking next year.

Either way doubt I'll be watching after game 6. May not even make it past game four w/ this team. They are going to be really, really, really, bad. Even if the offense is okay the defense is going to be amazingly terrible.

Is it possible that Greg Little develops into a border-line No. 1 receiver? or does he have MoMass 2.0 written all over him?

Kind of an interesting thought that's been going through my mind. That and if Carlton Mitchell can develop into a contribute on o.

And DEs (it's not like DE and LB are the most important positions in a 4-3, oh wait...)

And CB (no nickle back in a league where w/ the pussified QBs run the league shit nickle backs are on the field a TON

And free safety, where there isn't really one on the roster.
