Wouldn't it be kind of "Clevelandish" if the Pirates ascend to and win a world series before the Indians? :gah:

Uhh, they already have. Off the top of my head, they have won three World Series since we last won it.

That was not my meaning, what I guess I should have said is after there most recent bout with futility..... I remember their "We are family" days in 1979, some player's wife with that damn whistle. I was living in Tri towers at KSU, the place was littered with Pittsburgh detritus.

A lot of Pirate hats and t-shirts popping up in Erie all of a sudden, but they claim they have always been fans. Allegedly.

When the Pirates were good in 1990ish (barry bonds), lots of them were Browns fans. Trust me on that. Did those people become 1990s Indians fans?

Edit- in 1990, I was exiting a parking garage in Cincinnati after a Reds/Pirates game. A group of Pirate-clad people were waiting for me to pass before proceeding on the sidewalk, I slowed down and looked them in the eye and said, "Go Browns". They were surprised- took a breath and cheered (which surprised me- brothers in arms!). Maybe were WV folks, or near there. Prolly Steeler fans now- or at least their kids are. Thanks to Art Modell.

Didn't someone bring up the Pirate's coming on about a year ago and damn near got laughed off the forum?

Yeah, the same guy who got butchered and almost banned for saying LeBron couldn't close important games before the finals. A week or two before everyone else said LeBron couldn't close out important games during the finals. :hide:

Well, with Huntington running the show there, it would kind of be a victory for the Tribe, right? Right?

I reside here in pittsburgh. It's funny to see all the cars that only have 2 bumperstickers the last several years slowly coming around to the third one. The frontrunning here is very transparent.

But the only reason the pirates are hanging around is the same reason the Tribe is. The NL central might be worse than the AL central and that's saying something. The Tribe did sweep the Bucs this year and were 5-1 against the reds. The pirates might finish in second place AND still keep their sub .500 streak intact.

They are making strides though and should be competitive the next 5 years with their current club and the 3 possible FOR pitchers they have drafted the last 2 years.

"The internets"

I didn't realize there was more than one...

They are paper tigers like us on the offensive side of the ball, but there is no denying that they have a pretty solid pitching staff. They, like us, also play in a fairly weak division.
Don't go away mad, just go away.

Easy killer.

I made three "outrageous" claims on this forum, and all three turned out to be true.

Akron DID sign an OSU recruit, LeBron DID turn into a nervous wreck when it mattered most, and the Pirates have arrived. Maybe a year late. But they're here.

If that ticks you off, it makes me feel even better. :nanner:

I don't know if I brought this up, but it's now cheaper to go to a Pirates game than an Indians game. Although it takes longer.

You can ride to Pittsburgh on MegaBus for $1 each way. That's cheaper than an RTA ride to the Pro, and much cheaper than parking. I've been wanting to see what all the commotion is about with PNC Park, might have to take a Sunday and go on a roadie.

Or do a night game and spend the night next door in the casino. :hic:

$1 to Pittsburgh is still overpriced. And the Pirates still suck, and you were still wrong. They're beating Houston at a .750 clip and they're .500 against everyone else. Throw in their 6-3 record against the Cubs who are also brutal, and they're below .500 against real teams. You'd really rather have their roster/farm system than ours?

That's why the bandwagon is hilarious in Pitt's case. I wonder how many games left they have vs. Mil, STL, and Cin? Money says they finish 4th.

If you put an Indian fan to sleep and woke him today and told him we were a game out of first and that's all he knew (no details, no look at standings), you'd have the entire Pittsburgh Pirate nation. The majority of them don't know but 3 players on the team, nor especially do they not know why their record is what it is. Like any of them were watching the first month of baseball.

Never said I'd rather have their team or their farm. Just said they were coming on.

Neither is going to make a move to shore up their weaknesses this year to make a run anyhow, if either does I'll be surprised. And looking at the attendance at the Pro this season with the team in first place, I wouldn't either. Where's your guarantee it'l pay off in more attendance?

Go read what you said. Then STFU about how right you were about the pirates and claiming you got jumped for complimenting the Pirates.

Then jump off a bridge.

I did go back and read it, and I did say "why not us" about where the Pirates were going.

I didn't see anyone saying the Indians were going to be in first place in late July with a lot of divisional games the rest of the way. Not even YOU.

And you're right, it WAS a complaint about the Tribe brass, and I STILL complain about them for the same reasons. WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO PUT THEM OVER THE TOP? Who is the right handed outfielder they went out and got after finding out they were contenders? You know the answer as well as I do, NOT A DAMNED THING.

Sure they may win the division with this lineup, but it'll be a quick four-and-out in the playoffs against Boston or NY. Yay. Even the new Browns accomplished that much.
:dead:

But if the ****** Pirates weren't coming on, if they were in last place, why would I compare them to the 2010 Indians? When people pissed and moaned about the Pirates not being there yet, I said maybe the Rays were a better example since they/you couldn't see a crap team improving if it was in their own *** **** ballpark.

I just answered that. I was jealous about the Pirates because they were on their way up and we weren't. When the professional talent evaluators argued the Pirates still sucked, THEN I said it wasn't about them, and the Rays were a better example. Hoping they/you knew the Rays were a good team in a small market.

Just admit it. You didn't know EITHER team was going to be here now. Or go whining to the mods again, cuz that works too.

Since you won't put it away...

"They have speed. They have power. They have young pitching. They have draft picks who came through. They FOCUS ON FUNDAMENTALS. HELLO?"

"Are they contenders? No, not yet. They're trying though. And they're a hell of a lot more entertaining than the crap we put out there."

Then the replies

"They also have a 20-27 record"

"And would you have liked to have endured the 17 straight losing seasons to get there??"

"Yeah, I'm not going to get too jealous over the Pirates system. "

"But hey, I totally see your point about being excited. I mean, their starters have posted ERAs of 3.98, 4.47, 8.71, 5.40, 5.11, and 13.50. They don't have a pitcher under 27 regularly throwing in games out of the bullpen and they have two guys in the lineup hitting over .260.

They're in much better shape than us."

" I'm too lazy to look up their actual contracts for this year, but subtract those two and you are looking at about the Pirates salary, without the 17 straight losing seasons."

That's when I turned the focus to the Indians and not the comparison between the two. The Pittsburgh shit storm continued, and I brought up the Rays.

"The thread's not about the Pirates."

"OK maybe the Tampa Bay Rays are a better example of how talent evaluation can make all the difference with a small market team. The Pirates are a very young team, not in their prime yet. TWIB thinks they are on the right path and have a lot of potential."

Then came the replies

"Like the others have asked, what is your fascination with the Pirates? Who knows if the Pirates are doing things the right way? They look to be just as sorry as us, and we stink."

"The only good player the Pirates have is Andrew McCutchen. Other than that, they're going nowhere. They're not doing very much right."

Again, tried to turn the focus somewhere else.

"We've covered the Pirates ad nauseum. I've moved on to another example, we can move the thread on or end it. That's not defensive, that's just wanting to move on to a better comparison, in everyone's eyes.

How do you think the Indians' rebuilding methods compare to the Rays? Marlins?

Do you feel compelled to drive downtown, shell out parking money, and pay admission to watch the 2010 Cleveland Indians?"

Exactly which part are you reading into?

Seriously?

That is your answer?

If you had posted that you liked the Pirates potential it would have been fine. You didn't post that, you went extremely insane ranting about shit you had no clue about and you went insane bitching and whining about Shapiro. You are too fucking dumb to understand that is why you got jumped.

You cannot "spin" that you said the fucking thread wasn't even about the Pirates.

I've never been to a modern National League park. Been to a couple of the round multi-purpose artificial turf mosoleums, but nothing new. And PNC is suppose to be the nicest.

I THOUGHT it was fairly simple. Why would anyone use another team as an example of how inactive your team is, if you didn't think the other team was making strides? And they were/are. And we weren't in May 2010.

I saw the error in that assumption very early and tried to switch over to another small market team.

But that's not how it works on this forum, some just want to pile on with their misconceptions, and they cannot put together a take without attacking you. And when they're wrong, they can't admit that without ruining their insecure bully persona. You can argue forever that properly inflated tires are round, and they cannot back down for a second that they aren't without destroying their whole ego.

Read through the "epic" threads and they all have that same underlying current. Read through the serious threads, and note the recurring :dead: attacks.

It's how the game is played here. You get use to it, and do most of your real sports talk elsewhere...
