Breaking Bad - Season 4

Unread postby rebelwithoutaclue » Sun Jul 17, 2011 12:28 pm

New season starts tonight. It'll be interested to see how the cat and mouse games between Walt and Gus play out. I also wonder how much closer Hank will get to discovering who Heisenberg is when he just has to work on learning to walk again, if he even can.

I'll be watching, best written show going right now. I've been re-watching the first 3 seasons, and I realized I have no sympathy for Walt, none at all. In season one I did. Now he's just a criminal trying to use providing for his family as justification for doing some really heinous shit.

Tony Soprano was like that, I could root for him and loathe him in the same damn episode.

Amazing scene with Gus not saying one word until the very end of his and Walt's "meeting". And that meeting was the perfect thing to snap Jesse out of his stupor though the two emotional extremes so close together might have a negative effect.

Ya know, I am a big Breaking Bad fan but I think Klosterman may have made he hate it with that piece of shit he turned in on Grantland last week.

Klosterman makes me hate humanity.

Still waiting for his first good, Grantland column. Might be waiting for a while.

Holy Shitballs...that was a phenomenal episode. Just fantastic.

This season has been great so far. Totally different than last season, which I pretty much watched with my jaw on the floor. This one is moving much slower. But it is hitting all the right notes so far AFAIC.

The performances, as usual, are astounding.

Not going to lie, I just can't do BB anymore.

Every episode I find myself grabbing the laptop and watching Youtube or surging the web.

I'm weird I guess.

Huh, I wonder what it is. Do you just get bored with it? Like I said, it is definitely slow moving. When you look back, not a whole lot has happened this season.

And, they devoted entirely too much time to Skylar and Marie earlier in the season. But you can start to cut the tension with a knife now. You can see the train about to collide, and I have no freakin' clue what is going to happen.

BTW - I'm 2 episodes in on Deadwood. I can already tell I'm going to love it. Ian McShane reminds me a lot of myself.

It's certainly not the pace, I mean I am openly considering Mad Men as better than The Wire.

I just don't care.

It's beautifully acted, well written and smart, but I just can't make myself give a shit.

I felt the same way about The Sopranos.

I'll watch till the end and finish it and always respect the art, but fuck if I care. To each his own and it just never hit me in that spot that made me invested. If they all died tomorrow after a terrorist attack and that was the end of the series I wouldn't be sad.

Deadwood, well, I'm still praying for a follow-up movie.

I'm already sad about the inevitable 3 years from now end of Mad Men.

And I still worship at the alter of The Wire.

BB just can't find me, but I do appreciate it.

Guess I did too many drugs in my day and knew to many dealers, fuck if I know.

The weirdest thing is, I hated Anna Gun for 2.5 seasons of BB and that bitch almost ruined Deadwood for me, but she is actually good now.

Also, FTR: the first four eps of Deadwood are very "Western" but the show as a whole is about Community Building. It goes well beyond the era. Keep that in mind as you progress (advice given to me by @tvioti, slash the better than Sepinwall guy).

I think my favorite tv analogy ever was invented by some random dude on Twitter and shared by Todd and Sepinwall:

Parks and Rec is The Wire of comedies and Community is the Deadwood.

I thought it was one of the best episodes ever for Breaking Bad. Loving Giancarlo Esposito as he's becoming truly terrifying, even moreso than before, if that's possible.

Finally caught up on season 4 tonight. I knew how it would end, because of the previews they've (AMC) been running, but that didn't make the ride any less awesome.

Walt is a terrible human being. Didn't start out that way, but he is now. Though I do love it when he gets frustrated and angry at the same time. His lashing out at inanimate objects always makes me laugh.

Gus scared the shit out of me. That was one bad dude. But his last scene, where he looks like Two-face? Holy shit. That was amazing.

Question: At the end of the finale, when Walt and Jesse are on the roof of the parking deck, and Jesse is telling Walter that Brock was going to pull through...we get a camera shot through a grate on the ground, and I swear you could hear someone breathing. Were they being watched? Mike, maybe?

Pretty sure Mike was still in the impromptu Mexican hospital after the shootout with the cartel.

Can't wait for tonight No idea what they're gonna do but all the interviews say the 1st part of the season is pretty crazy.

Yep. Didn't think it got much better than Walt's birthday episode last week, and then they go and top it this week. Phenomenal episode.
