I'm amped up about Vala right now because he is a potential franchise center and not having him next year gets you more ping pong balls.

Cavs had him in for a secret meeting last night according to DX. OJ, of course, won't tell anyone that though.

Dude, I understand that the TPE is expiring. It just seems shitty to me that, in the end, the best we will be able to do with it is the 10 in this shitty draft and Corey fucking Maggette, who will then be bought out.

I think it's time to accept that we won't get a 2012 lottery pick for this trade exception. As was said earlier, a lot of our potential suitors would have a PR nightmare on their hands by trading that kind of a pick just to clear some cash. This year? You can defend it much easier unless you're Sacto. And while the top of this draft is pretty bad, I think its depth is decent. I'd love to see us end up with 1, 6, 10, and 18 (6 or 10 being Valanciunas) or something like that. We need bodies, we eventually need good role players, and we need to suck for at least another year.

I’ve long given up trying to weigh Vala’s high ceiling/worse floor against Kanter’s better floor/lower ceiling/not playing/defense.

Said awhile ago, which ever big the FO picks I’ll live w/.

And having another year to bulk up does increase the likelihood of Vala becoming Chandler. And I've been in love w/ Chandler for years. Love that style of center in this NBA.

The other thing about Valanciunas is that stashing him delays the expiration of his rookie contract (at the time when we would hopefully be good again) by another year. You almost get a free year of his development without starting the clock to free agency. I think it's a great gamble if we can get a third lottery pick and it's even defensible at 4.

Word has been that Vala has been looking better than expected, and coming in bigger, not just height-wise, but coming in a little heavier too.

I agree with everything e0y said about Chandler (and the same goes for J. Noah). Vala is already heavier than Noah's or Chandler's listed weights FWIW.
