Kanter looks great when you see him but all based on super small sample size... blah blah.

Kanter looks good in the clips you see.

But I remember folks on here a couple years ago (small minority, mind you) who thought Kosta Koufus was the next Dirk Nowitzky because he had some good perimeter skills for his size. I say that only because when we watch this small sample size (clips), might we have the same blinders that those Koufus fans had? It certainly appears that Kanter is way more athletic than Koufus. And I'm not sure Koufus was ever going to be anything but a high post guy, and not a low post guy. I'm still pulling for a Kanter pick, but unlike many of you, I have no idea about how Kanter compares to Valla and Vesely, the other two intriguing euro-bigs.

Chad Ford is stationed in Bristol this week and was on Mike and Mike.

He said this morning that Jimmer Fredette's floor was Ben Gordon and his ceiling was Steve Nash. Loves that Fredette was capable of passing the ball when he had confidence in guys cashing it in, loves he can get off his own shot from anywhere.

I mention this not as an endorsement of Fredette but more for being somewhat shocked that Ford is as high on him as he is.

Ford says Vala is near a buyout. Also says that it will keep him in Europe for a year, which of course means OJ no longer has to worry about Vala if true.

I know it won't happen because Le Petit Douche would never stand for the the #4 pick playing on the other side of the pond for a season. Normally that would be true, but we already have the #1 pick. I'm not convinced he's ready yet, physically, anyways.

If Vala was going to be the pick before this, he should still be the pick after this. I don't care if he has to play another season overseas...it may be good for him depending on how long the lockout lasts.

I think the move they're trying to make now though is to trade the pick.

I know nothing about these Euros but this is the perfect time to bite the bullet on one that has to stay over there for a year. Potential short lockout year impending, we need to suck more as e0 said, and we have a #1 pick to handle the PR aspect. But is he that much better than the other options?

Saw the same thing from eye's eyesore, probballdraft guy earlier. Also read Wash made the same offer to move up to #3 in front of us.

I'm not a huge fan of moving down. A #18 rarely helps a team. But if our brass thinks they can get the same value at #6 as #4, I'll live with it. It is just so rare to have #1 and #4. I would rather they do something to move up somehow.


I know the Cavs have a lot of needs. But I think the NBA is a lot different than the NFL on draft day. In the NFL draft, you can make a case that quantity is more important than quality, because you need so many players. In the NBA I think it is all about quality. A ton of the guys drafted in only 2 rounds won't even make their teams. You need to try to draft stars. Look around.

The move down would be to grab Vala while still bringing in two rookies so Gilbert can get his nuts off about how much better the team will be.

It's actually brilliant and something I would love.

In a weak draft you are better off getting as many picks as you can because some of these guys will hit. Not playing Gilbert Fantasy World and trying to land the top two picks.

The problem with this draft is there aren't many stars. LOTS of role players. That said, you need 8 guys to win a championship, and they can't all be stars. I've got no problems trading down a couple picks, still taking Vala (or T. Thompson, Burks, Klay Thompson, Singleton), and nabbing a good role player at 18 (maybe Faried as a rebounder, or Hamilton as a bench scorer...maybe a Morris twin if one drops).

Rumor is that Utah also wants to do that trade with Washington. If so, then I'm not sure there's much we can do aside from offering up cash and/or one of our 2nds to go with it.

Minny apparently doesn't love Williams, and I'm inclined to agree with them. If he drops I'm fine with taking him at 4, but I really don't think he's a difference maker.
