Heckert press conference thoughts

Unread postby Triple-S » Thu Apr 21, 2011 11:34 am

From what I took away, he's not looking for a WR with that first pick, rather someone on the d-line. He kind of talked down the need of the position by his Philadelphia Corp. of receivers talk. Todd Pinkston and Freddie Mitchell....yeah.

Thoughts?

I don't think there's any way in hell they're taking a receiver.

They won't pass on Peterson if he's there and if he's gone they're taking the highest rated DL on their board. That's that as far as I believe.

That's based completely on the fact that they have multiple needs combined with Heckert's past decisions (even when McNabb was dying for an 'impact, first round' type receiver).

If he sounds like we aren't taking a Receiver than we are taking Green or Jones. Unless, of course, he thinks that other teams will think he is saying that to get them to think that, then I think he is clearly taking a d-lineman.

Quite simple really.
In the end, we're all "only for a limited time," you guys.

Well, and I guess, who am I to question what works and who's been able to build a team like the Eagles who have been a power in the NFL since 1999.

He knows what works, me, the average joe sifting through youtube videos, and looking at stats?. Not so much.

IHHIT.

This is a good plan. Maybe even through round 2.

I'm with ya.

And I really believe a couple acquisitions in terms of WRs in later rounds and via free agency and this offense is crisper, more effective and more efficient. As with the WR article on the front page I'm with JTA in being intrigued by C. Mitchell and the guys the Browns have already in a system that better suits them and the guy delivering them the ball.

We'll see.

But I agree stacking up the defense is the way to go. There's a dearth of defensive linemen on the roster. I don't think there will be after May 1st.

When the Hoodie was here running a 4-3 he drafted DL in bulk, throwing bodies at the roster in hopes some of them would stick. Guys like Bill Johnson, James Jones, Pio, etc.

The new braintrust needs to do the same.

My preference for rounds 1 & 2:

1a - Peterson, DL
1b - DL, DL
2 - DL, DL still
7 - Anything else

I wouldn't kill them for taking a QB because that means they think we need a QB, and if they think we need a QB, then we need a QB.

I'm just amazed Heckert can talk without Holmgren's hand jammed up his ass working his mouth like a meat puppet.

But yeah. Defense is cool with me.

Peterson.

I'd be good with that. As long as this DB is a little healthier than the last one.

Bowers?

just had a talk with a friend from clemson and he seemed to speak highly of him, said the injury stuff has been over hyped, and that Bowers was playing with a messed up knee all season and still looked great.

Won the Nagurski and ACC DPOY.

Could be a good fit, afterall, the last DE from Clemson to play for the Brownies didn't turn out to be all that bad.

I'm all for beefing up the DL, but if they drafted Green then, backed it up with Heyward or Austin in the 2nd and continued with Nevis in the 3rd, isnt that addressing issues?

What I'd like to see is Peterson or Gabbert being there but used as ammo to trade down and pick up another 2nd round pick. Many ways to go here though, exciting time of the year to be a Browns fan (again)!

Because injuries in college really slowed us down our rookie year

I fnd that POV positively shocking from a Clemson fan. ;-)

Did he also lament that Homer Jordan never got a fair shake in the NFL? Oh wait. That was SD.

Everything Heckert is going to say now can be broken down into two categories

1) Outright lies
2) Deceptions

SD:

More like lies and damn lies, and thats been since January when they hired Shurmur and everybody got a hymn book singing Colts praises...

Holmgren could learn some lessons from the Hoodie , in this game he's a fuckin Rube .

The Hoodie has trotted out all the top QB's and he has Tom Brady , meanwhile Farmer John finally gets around to talking up the obvious forced to admit he done sinned in is heart and sneaked a peek at Newton and others.

Glad Heckert is running this and Mike had enough sense to recognize , he;s nobodies GM just a Big show.

With the amount of deficiencies on the roster the training camp should resemble the scene in "The Ten Commandments" where the Isrealis are leaving Egypt.
