Anybody still play it?

I'm not a huge fan of texas hold 'em. It's too scripted for me, like black jack. Follow the "rules" and bet according to the book. Too mechanical.

Anybody play Follow the Queen, Jacks or better trips to win, midnight baseball, balls, low spade splits the pot, criss cross, 7 card stud and so on?

We play once a month. 20 dollar buy in , dealer calls the hand, 2 dollar max bet.
You can buy as many more chips as you need.

Haven't in a while but I'm so burnt on hold 'em that I find myself missing games like this. Just also not a fan at all of games with more wild cards than people at the table. So baseball of either kind ain't my cup of tea. $2 max on every bet with raises? That sounds like you could have some big swings?

I get together with a few buddies once a month or so. We play a mix of hold 'em and other games like you mention. It's dealer call. We usually buy in for $5 or $10 and have chips worth 10/20/30 cents. No max bets. You can buy in for more if you guy busto.

Frankly the jacks or better, follows the queen, and all those games (many of which include wild cards) bore me b/c there's no thinking involved. Everyone always stays in so it's just going through the motions and getting lucky. I prefer hold 'em.

It's been a long time but I used to love poker nights like that.

One of the most nervous times I've ever had was when I went "pot" on a 4/Q in a game of Acey Deucey. I was sweating and had that feeling in my throat and my balls were sucked up inside. It was gutsy. What was in the pot?...$13.

I'm a high roller. Still don't know why it seemed so huge at the time

I think there's thought in it personally. Understanding exactly that few will drop means you need to know what hands are likely going to take down pots and what odds you're drawing too to get there. If the numbers ain't right there will be another hand in two minutes.

Now, Midnight baseball? Useless and thoughtless. Best way to play it is to get up and take a piss or grab a beer whenever it's called.

Yeah, midnight baseball is dumb. I like Jacks or better, Draw 2 nothing wild. 7 card stud, stuff like that.
5 cards draw 2 nothing wild is better than Hold 'em because you don't see all the common cards.

Anyways, not trying to win an arguement, just taking a poll. We are like old women anyways, more interested in bullshitting than gambling.

No max number of raises, just the 2 dolar per bet (the dreaded 2 bomb). Many cowards will fold.

So much thought goes into hold'em. Position being the biggest IMO. Played all the dealer call games with my father and his friends. Loved their home games cause every one of them was drinking, and all were call stations.

Be fun to get a group togther and hit up the Nautica poker thing...

Mother's story would have made me laugh if it wasn't the fact I get nervous before every game... Get that first win though and its hours of battles.

Been several years since the good ol' drinkin card games, for sure...

Was always a blast playin Jacks or better, 7 card, etc. What the hell happened when poker was actually a "social" event and not so serious?

Oh yeah we play with money but it's not about money. It's just an excuse for all my grade school freinds to chit and chat and drink lots of beer. Lots more talking than shuffling.

Haven't played in forever. Kind of miss it. Used to play weekly in HS, then played bi-weekly in college.

Been a long time, since. And I can't stand playing 1-2NL at Mountaineer, so I never play there.

Logged about 50-60 hours a week from 2004-2008 between Party, FT, and Stars and that doesn't include all the live games I played at OSU, but quit once my job started to take off. My family game we had every Sunday up until a few years ago had every game imaginable and was always a good time. I am partial to NLHE, but those other games from my childhood like 7 stud, baseball, low/high chicago, and jacks/trips will always have a sentimental value.
