Who do you want? First three rounds

Unread postby Loo » Sun Apr 17, 2011 2:00 am

It has been a long, long time since I've been this convinced that any Cleveland team should take a certain course of action as what the Browns should and could do with the 2011 draft.

With who could and should be available (let's keep this to players you'd like to see at each spot but also players that have at least a good chance of being available as well), the Browns have a great opportunity to turn a weakness into a near-strength, speaking of the defensive line.

So who are the top 3-6 players you'd like at each spot? I'm adding tiers.

First round:

1. Da'Quan Bowers, DE, CLE
2. Robert Quinn, DE, UNC

3. A.J. Green, WR, UGA
4. Julio Jones, WR, ALA
5. Nick Fairley, DT, AUB (assuming Dareus is taken in the top-3 picks, so he isn't listed here).

If you want to run a 4-3, a pro bowl caliber DE is a must. One of those two will surely be there and probably both the way everyone is (idiotically) reacting to Bowers' possible knee issues. Fairley is fifth because of his attitude the last couple of weeks. Late to meetings that could mean a ton more money depending on the pick? Not great.

Second round:

1. Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon State
2. Marvin Austin, DT, North Carolina

3. Jabaal Sheard, DE, Pittsburgh
4. Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado
5. Brandon Harris, CB, Miami
6. Allen Bailey, DE, Miami

Those two DTs have arguments for first round talent, especially Paea.

Third round:

1. A WR. In order of preference: Smith (Maryland), Cobb (Kentucky), Hankerson (Miami), Baldwin (PITT), Young (Boise), Jernigan (Troy) and Little (UNC)

2. Marcus Cannon, OG, TCU
3. Drake Nevis, DT, LSU
4. Shane Vereen, RB, California
5. Jacquizz Rodgers, RB, Oregon State

There are so many WRs thought to be above a certain talent level, I'd like to see the Browns go defensive line with the first two picks and then land whatever WR falls to them in the third. Quite frankly I think you're satisfying both BPA and PON by doing that. Not to say the Browns should go into this as close minded as that sounds, but by what could and should be available that looks like a great plan of action.

First Round:

1) Darius: you didnt list him so you prob thought he wouldnt be there. I think there is a chance if he gets past Denver

2) Robert Quinn/ AJ Green / Patrick Peterson - I'd be good with any of the 3. I know Quinn has a huge risk/reward, but I have to trust Heckert that he's done his due diligence.

3) Jones: I'd love to slip down to say 10 with the Skins and pick up Jones and another pick.

2nd Round: (if we get Green or Jones, I dont consider another WR in the 2nd or 3rd rounds)

1) Heyword DE /Wilkerson DT /Carimi OT/ Castanzo - are all guys Ive seen that might possibly fall

2) Paea DT/ Ballard DE/ M. Wilson LB - some injury concerns with Paea and Wilson though

3) Hankerson WR / Baldwin WR/ M. Austin DT - heard many negatives about Austin and attitude, same to a lesser degree about Baldwin

3rd Round

1) Greg Little WR/ Ellis DT/ Brewer OT/ Rackley OG - Little may be worth the rist at 3rd round if we did not select WR earleir. May be a good sport to secure OL help.

4th round and beyond : Lots of good DTs that may be available at out spots include Nevis, McClain, Jenkins, Acho, Guy, Neild, McPhee, Romeus, Allen. Interesting DBs and possibly a slot WR like Salas or Shorts. Maybe a project QB late

Why is it idiotical to react negatively to a first round pick who had microfracture surgery and shows a possible degenerative condition in his knee? Sounds pretty cautious to me. And rightfully so.
I don't need to be patient, they're going to be shit forever.

1st-Jones
2nd-Heyward (think he slips...wrongfully)
3rd-Hankerson/Little
4th-Matthews

Would be extremely excited if this played out this way.

1. Patrick Peterson
2. Julio Jones
3. AJ Green
4. Tyron Smith (I DON'T EVER WANT TO SEE ANOTHER JOHN ST. CLAIR START AT RT EVER AGAIN..Want to place blame for the injuries of McCoy, Delhomme and Wallace? look no further than el matador)
5. Ryan Kerrigan (homer pick? maybe, but the guy was pretty much purdue's entire defense! he played great against the big boys of the big ten like TOSU, and Purdue just knows how to produce talent in the form of defensive ends)

1. Marvin Austin
2. Adrian Clayborn
3. Bruce Carter
4. Ryan Williams
5. Jon Baldwin

1. Casey Matthews (we whiffed by not getting Clay II, Browns better not whiff again)
2. Kendall Hunter
3. Shane Vereen
4. James Carpender
5. Chimdi Chekwa

Ideally, I'd like to see us go Peterson/Austin/Matthews..I'd like to get a reciever early, but the value in those three picks is pretty damn good.

There is a high number of draft threads two weeks before the draft in a lockout? You don't say.

Everyone discusses the draft, less put on paper who they want at each spot.

1st Round: Dareus, Quinn, Peterson, Green, Fairley, Jones, Newton, Bowers.

2nd Round: Not gonna bother thinking about it since I have no clue who will be available.

3rd Round: Even more so.

Ya know I said what I said because the initial reports stated we'd know the condition of Bowers' knee after April 8 testing. So, everyone freaking out over something we'd know the results over seemed moronic. But, if it's not known, obviously that holds some merit.

As long as his knee is in question I don't think a team can take him in the top-10 even though every fiber in my body says it's just us being over cautious and looking too far into reports.

Would love to be a fly on the wall to find out what CLE's medical staff thinks.

Suppose Quinn would be pushed into the top slot otherwise.
