OSU Spring Game to be Live on BTN

Unread postby danwismar » Fri Apr 08, 2011 3:22 pm

The OSU Spring Game will be telecast live on Big Ten Network at 1:30 p.m. on April 23rd.

BTN's entire spring football schedule is at the link.

BTW, there's a full scrimmage at the Horseshoe tomorrow morning that is open to the media. I'll be there, and will write up something, somewhere on the site.

The beat guys have been complaining a bit about their limited access to the team this spring...they have been limited to two 30-minute segments of indoor practice, and have been given pre-recorded video of interviews with a few players instead of the usual live player interview access.

This will be the first extended spring look at the team for any media people, and there will be player availability for media interviews afterward. It will be interesting to see if the staff stands guard to screen questions and/or limit responses. My guess is that only seniors and/or captain candidates will be present at interview session.

I'm really confused as to how they are gonna run the SG with the tat 5 and Tressel suspensions to consider.

I don't think they have enough OLinemen to play an actual game. It'll end up being more of a super practice.

I had wondered how they were going to pull that off with the thin ranks of OL, but I think they can do it. Remember Tat5 can practice, so Adams will be there

Sat through 2.5 hours of scrimmaging today.

Guys who played at OT - Adams, Shugarts, Marcus Hall, Andrew Norwell, Tommy Brown (FR), Jack Mewhort

Guys who played guard - Hall, Norwell, Corey Linsley, Mewhort, Ivan Blackman (transfer), plus two walk-ons.

Center: Brewster backed up by Linsley...Mewhort can also play center though I didn't see him take any snaps there today.

Tackle is the big problem numbers-wise. BTW, Tommy Brown played a lot at RT today, and looked like he's got very good feet...played well against some good pass-rushers. He's 6'5", 310, but looks bigger for some reason.

Starting OL, L to R - Adams - Mewhort - Brewster - Linsley - Shugarts

Wouldn't be a bit surprised if either Hall or Norwell ends up starting at guard in place of Mewhort or Linsley. Norwell played a lot of guard today after being exclusively a tackle in 2010. Hall also very versatile...and good.

They get two more guards and a center when the other freshmen get here in the fall, but there are no more tackles coming till 2012. An injury to ANY tackle in the SG would be devastating. They could just call the game off right there.

CDT...you're looking more right by the day...

Rumors today that the Spring Game will alter the format to more closely resemble these scrimmages...where there is just an offense vs defense format instead of trying to field two full teams of both O and D. It's all because of the O-Line situation.

I think alot of fans just want a look at Braxton Miller and Rod Smith. I'd like to see Taylor Graham, i've heard he looks pretty good so far.

He did look pretty good Saturday...11 of 20 unofficially for about 85 yds, with a short TD on a fade to Posey from 8 yds out. Pretty calm in the pocket, and agile enough to scramble a bit...ran around end for one first down.

Not as electric as Braxton...throwing or running...but he's been around a year longer, and it shows.
