Stupid game of chicken, who flinches first?

They are all assholes frankly. A few billion apart and these supposed "leaders" can't come up with a solution.

Better question...if the government has 800,000 employees that aren't "mission critical," why have those employees at all?

I also love that congress and the president still get paid even if there is a shutdown. But the "mission critical" government employees that have to work regardless don't.

Full disclosure...I am a "mission critical" government employee.

You obviously do not have a wife that decided she need not pay attention to what the tax guy actually said and assumed he would be e-filing the returns. Only to find out 3 weeks later that the stack of documents on your desk actually need signed and mailed to paper file. During the course of those three weeks, you probably did not pay cash for replacement windows, therefore you are not currently sitting around wondering where you are going to get the cash to pay for them when they are installed in a couple weeks.

You're absolutely correct, none of those apply to me. From what I understand though, you can still e-file and they will process those. Only the paper returns aren't processed during the shutdown.

Also, I still think there won't actually be a shutdown, and if there is it will only last a day or two.

Another funny thing about the shutdown...I just got an e-mail that slightly clarifies what is/isn't to happen during the shutdown (if it happens). One, non-essential personel who are furloughed are forbidden by law to do anything for work. If their govt issued blackberrys ring, they are forbidden to answer them. If they had leave scheduled, their leave is cancelled and the furlough takes over.

On the other hand, essential personel who are not furloughed are forbidden from NOT working. So the leave I have scheduled for next Friday to come see the Indians-Orioles? By law (the "Antideficiency Act"), I cannot take the day off and I will be considered AWOL and charged with insubordination. But I don't get paid until the shutdown ends.

So, to sum it up, if you're not essential, you can't work, have to stay home and will eventually get paid. If you're essential, you must work, can't stay home and will eventually get paid.

Government effiency at its finest. Still can't beleive that it has come to this.

It's the fault of Planned Parenthood. If they would stop helping out women and teenage girls, this would never happen.

If every politician died tomorrow, my day wouldn't change one bit. I'm not sure they actually do anything anyway.

Make sure to continue blowing up shit in Lybia, I paid $3.62 this morning at the pump.

Most places around here are in the $3.80s. You've got it good.

Blah, it is a prereq that if you live here you drive a Jeep or Subaru. The only people that drive Subaru's are lesbians and snooty liberal men. Last time I checked I am neither. Therefore, the DMV told me I had to go with the Jeep.

Got 24 inches of snow in about 12 hours last time I was up in the mountains. I'll stick with the Jeep. You should see the dumb hippies driving their priuses up to the Eisenhower tunnels on 70 in ice, snow and wind. Pure comedy.

How you can watch this and not see the blatant ad hom attacks by Begala is beyond me... How can you negotiate with a guy like that? This interview is so slanted. Let's see, my personal budget is short 10,000 dollars for April. What they are doing now, would be like me cutting 5 dollars out of that 10,000 and calling that tough...

If the Dem's still had their ALMOST blank check does anyone truthfully think they would be cutting anything?

Nah the Republicans are wrong and stupid like always. But that's what you get when John Boehner is leading the party. A miserable pile of human garbage and blight on the state of Ohio.

You're just jealous of his tan.

Glad to see the collection of boners could figure something out.

Shutting down the government for less than .83% of the budget or stupid policy riders that shouldn't be in budget bills are just retarded... not that the GOP are the first to do it.

Why is it in Washington nothing can be what it is? Gotta slide in all sorts of unrelated items in bills.

Boehner wins. Reid must really be appalled now... Next stop debt ceiling and 2012 budget. Though isn't the world ending in 2012? Maybe that has been the Obama/Democrat plan all along. The Galactic Alignment Budget.
