McShay
1. Robert Quinn, DE, NC
2. Stephen Pea, DT, Oregon State
3. Leonard Hankerson, WR, Miami

Find it interesting both have WR, DT, DE but different players in a different order. Kiper passes on Pea in round 2 to take Jenkins. Kiper also still has Baldwin on the board when the Browns pick in 3. If Heckert thinks he will have a choice between Baldwin and Hankerson in round 3, I see no reason to take Jones/Green in round 1.

Of course, both have us passing on Pat Peterson in 1.

Although I was down on Quinn in the "Bowers" thread, I would go with McShay's mock. Pea and Hankerson are both guys I really like. Paea is a hotly debated prospect, but I, for one, think he will be a stud in the pros. He has a knee injury, but should be ready to start the season (if there is one).

Hankerson is another interesting prospect. He was a guy that just seemed to always make plays, despite a subpar QB.

That said...I take PP over both Quinn and Jones in a heart beat.

I don't know these players as well as a lot of people here. I like McShay's draft better because of the positions drafted and the rounds. I absolutely love the idea of going DL int he 1st 2 rounds. I'm really coming around to Quinn too, after reading stuff from the other threads.

I love Jones, but my preference is to go defense early and often.

Of the top half of the teams with top QB's aka passing games, I'm only seeing Houston and NYJ where these are receiver driven. Brady, Manning, Rivers, Ben, Drew... etc are all doing it with either Teddy the Wonder Lizzards or projects who have over achieved.

Edit: D jackson and vick are hard to pinpoint. both are dang good.

Manning - Really? Harrison will be in the Hall of Fame and Wayne and Dallas Clark might be well on their way too. All three 1st-rounders.

Rivers - Vincent and Gates weren't 1st round picks but both have shown to be great receivers with Gates a HOFer who completely revolutionized the position.

Roethlispuke - Ward is a borderline Hall-of-Famer and Holmes was a 1st round pick. They finally struck gold with Mike Wallace. Heath Miller is also a beast.

Brady and Brees are really the only 2 that have done it with a WR/RB corps of nobodies and you can just look at what Randy Moss did for Brady to see what a great receiver can do for an already great QB.

I guess I don't know what receiver-driven means other than you perceive the WR's to be better than the QB for those respective teams (NYJ and HOU).

I'm talking 2010, here and now. Thus the stats link. Hit it and then let's talk.

I don't see many number one picks at WR (hey, forget TE ) on the best or even above average NFL pssing teams, or even high number ones spent on WR's who are still on the teams that darfted them. I see overachievers (relative to drafting position, so half the guys you mention who actually played in 2010 reinforces my take) , trades, and wonderlizzards (Brady's crew in 10) .

I conclude you do not best build teams by drafting WR's in the top 10. You build them by having a good coach and system and a WR development program and a heck of a QB, often drafted high.

If the Browns draft Quinn, I think they should give him Brady Quinn's old number, thus re-validating the jerseys that a whole bunch of people bought a couple years ago.

(Yes, I'm perfectly aware that that can't happen, especially with the Browns set to retire Brady's number and all.)
