They've already mentioned the "liberties" they took with the Hollywood version.

I didn't think KTI was that bad, although the ending was cheesy as fuck. Still worth a watch.

Too slanted toward the hero worship side. The documentary is actually much like I assume the Hollywood version would be - propping the legend up instead of doing what a documentary is supposed to do, which is tell the real story.

If you're into close-up of blown off body parts it'll be two big thumbs up.

It's shocking too, because the cast is actually really talented, but there was just no overcoming that script. Every four seconds was some stereotypical cliche line about this or that... just awful really.

It's on Starz On Demand right now.

Don't watch it.

The only reason to watch it is to continue to be amazed that Linda Cardellini still doesn't look any different than she did in Freak and Geeks.

Really one of the five worst scripts I've witnessed making it to release.

I think it's cool because in the end the Irish lose..... and that's pretty realistic.

If you weren't such a dainty little fairy, you would have watched the Pusher Trilogy by now. But maybe you're too busy watching Transformers trying to pick out the subtle differences in Shia LeBoof's performances in the first and third movies.

What gave him the confidence was the police protection.

Kinda left out of many of the "legendary" stories. Or any Hollywood movie.

The story of him replacing his blown up home with a trailer on the property..... The legend has him saying "come get me," which, is a bit easier to do when you know the police presence around that area was about non-stop.

If he never turns informant there's a lot less stories, and he'd a probably been dead sooner.

The movie was good, it could have been great just using what was known back in the day. Maybe they were being respectful of the family members that were left behind as far as not going into a more truthful representation. I mean you know what they did, their activities, etc. and they showed it in a tasteful way. As far as the documentary, I thought it very much reflected what was happening along with the real footage of back in the day. It didn't put Danny Greene onto worship status, he said what he said and it showed that in the documentary. Funny after all these years, the deep feelings that come to light of those that disliked him and those back in the day still do. Time does not necessarily heal all wounds; it more or less dulls them.

I don't care how truthful it is or isn't, I don't care who knows who or what is or isn't tasteful, I care that the script was terrible, the acting couldn't cover up the shitty dialogue and the entire thing was a pummeling of cliches.

I don't care if you banged Danny Green back in the day and are touched to see a movie having been made tastefully about him and you banging for days, the script was freaking awful from purely a cinematic standpoint.

They fucked this movie up by filming it in Detroit not Cleveland. It really took me out of the film , I grew up in Euclid , and most of my family is from Collinwood, and Detroit looks nothing like Collinwood to anyone who knows the area. The sad part is Collinwood really hasn't changed all that much since the 70s, so it would have been perfect for filming.

The final scene really pissed me off, Greene was killed in a Car bombing at a dentist office in South Euclid. I have been to South Euclid many a times, and I don't recall it looking like a Detroit ghetto.
Whoever did the research for this film really phoned it in.

First off, I totally agree it should have been filmed in Cleveland but guess what, the governor at the time (Strickland) was not giving the tax breaks so they filmed it in Michigan. I said the movie was good, not great. Guess what, I did not bang Danny Greene. Look at my name, figure it out. Re read what I wrote the first time....light bulb go off yet?

One more thing, yes very disappointed with the bomb scene. The Cedar/Brainard building is an icon, they at least could have attempted to find a similar building if they couldn't use the one in Lyndhurst. Also, I didn't care for the timeline of the killings of his Celtic Club at the end but I guess thats where artistic creativity comes to play. Like I said if they just followed the story in the book, they wouldn't have had to do the cliche things. All in all, it wasn't bad, just disappointing at times.

Three choices:

1. The Hollywood interpretation

2. The "Legend" of Danny Greene

3. The Truth

The truth would never have been chosen for a movie in the first place, so you're left with the combination of one and two. The movie whiffed on both accounts, it was bad cinematically, and it was poor in regard to his "legend."

It should be noted that this is an instance where an absolutely awful book was made into a movie. That book is BRUTAL. Mispellings, from a grammatical standpoint, I can't believe it got published. No real way to keep princilples in order through that text. And about 100 other things.
