Just was thnking about this and boom there it is. I thought it was march 31. I was in school at the time. never was much of a reagan fan until i got older and appreciated what he did. i thought he was an actor-phony when i was a kid but have realized that he was the real deal. a tough SOB too came back from the gunshot wounds and was a good president.

Tellin' yah, Reagan has evolved after-the-fact into a god by the ultra-right. So much revision it isn't even funny. Loved his charm , optimism, and swag, too. I think he understood the POTUS position more than anyone including even Bubba -- in a huge contrast to BO . But policy-wise? He set us down a catastrophic path long-term . I even give him credit for the first 2 years of his first term when he pretended he wanted to be a fiscal conservative. Take an listen to David Stockman these days who was there on the inside and an objective look at what Ronnie's crue did long-term to the economy, investments, deficit/debt, tax base, and middle class jobs. It isn't good.

I know the wing nuts are gonna gag with appoplexy that Reagan can be objectively evaluated after cannonization and do the usual name calling and posing at me, but it is what it is.

Dude- timing is everything. Shit started falling right for a lot of people at the time RR took office. From the hostage release to the wall to an upturn economically.

But RR had some strengths to rely on. Dude HAD a fastball. Whether it was acting ability or whether it was real, shit lined up right and he gave countries around the world, for the most part, pause to reflect and he announced that re-found presence with authority (to borrow from Nuke LaLouche).

I ain't saying his policy was tight or that he should be given credit for DOING anything. I'm saying that things were perceived to be better than they were before once he got in office, perception is reality and there's no one better on earth to capitalize on that fact than an actor.
