Just because I don't pay close attention to the mid-major D-1 thing, these days how big of a step-up is Dayton over CSU? I am talking about for Gary Waters career if he is going to project to the big-time D1 level, should he continue to do well at CSU and then jump to a BCS type conference? Or is Dayton a good logical progression? Obviously worked for Matta and several others, it just seems the Horizon has improved, and I am not sure how necessary it is. Looking at the teams does the A-10 simply have a much bigger gate and/or TV deal?

Nevermind, Matt Painter interested in the Missouri job. What with Missouri's much richer tradition and all. Does Painter have a crap recruiting class or two that he's escaping while "cashing in"?

I've often wondered why they can't get a higher profile a la Xavier in Cincinnati.

I think it might be a place a good coach can really shine.

CSU is off the charts pathetic as far as capturing any support. 2K for the NIT home 2nd round in that place is a farce. If I were H2O's I would have quit in the middle of the game out of contempt. Lord know sthe folks at CSU kill themselves, but the town and students are beyond apathetic, which is another reason why the FCS football rumors have to be questioned. UD Arena may have the best sight lines of any decent sized hoops venue I've ever set foot in and the students / fans really get into it.

There's no comparison. And this has to be why MAC and CSU get no respect, the coaches want to bail, and why not all mid-majors are created equal.

Maybe if Kent took its winning basketball program seriously and stopped pouring money into the rathole that is the football program and re-directed those resources toward hoops, they wouldn't lose coaches to mediocre programs like TCU and Bradley. Just a thought.

Interesting names popping up for UD's spot. As a CSU watcher, I like what Waters is doing here and hope he stays. Waters is a guy that has taken the higher profile gig and seen that the grass isn't always greener at bigger programs (mo money, mo pressure). Maybe he's "over it?"

As far as Dayton goes, as an alum I'll say - it's the only game in town. UD football is non-scholarship, there's minor league baseball and hockey in town, some very dumpy bars, ghetto golf, and jack squat else. The blue-hairs pack UD arena every damn game. 10-13k per game, rain or shine. Great facilities, high salary for a coach to work with.

It's quite frustrating for us Flyers that Dayton can't run with Xavier, Gonzaga, and other premium private school programs. We have a nice home-court advantage, but always seem to buckle on the road and at the NCAA's. Oli Purnell to Clemson, Brian Gregory to GT. Purnell ended up flaming out in the SEC and is now at DePaul. Gregory will do the same and end up at a Michigan Directional.

Tragedy narrowly averted. Although, I can't say I'm altogether pleased. Woj will probably make a solid coach. Plus, Dayton going Duke Jr. program is a braver step than going with a slimeball or a very obvious stepping-stoner.
