Bruce Pearl Gets Canned

Pearl's NCAA issues became public last September when the school acknowledged recruiting violations. At the time, Pearl only said that he didn't "tell the truth the first time" NCAA investigators asked him about a violation; he declined to be more specific. CBSSports.com subsequently reported that Pearl's lie centered around a picture that showed Aaron Craft, now a freshman at Ohio State, at Pearl's home while on an unofficial visit in violation of NCAA rules.

UT's notice of allegations confirmed that report.

Where does he go? Someone hires this scumbag almost immediately, no?

Billy Gillespie just got rehired, and he's such an alc UK assigned a personal driver to him (didn't stop him from getting another DUI there). Six straight tourney appearances for Pearl, and he made runs in almost all of em before this year's embarrassment.

Have a feelin the big 6 aren't gonna take a chance on him just yet?

Maybe a TV or ol' Rollie gig for next year...

Unfortunately, the guy's too charismatic and knows how to charm anyone with an IQ under 120

He's a smug, loud-mouth doosh...ESPN should be calling any minute.

(No chance a power conference team hires him. Don't forget that he burnt a lot of bridges with his transgressions at whatever directional Wisconsin team he coached at before Tenn.)

Won a DII title. Went to Milwaukee, where he took that school (who has never done anything) to a couple tourneys, actually making it to the Sweet 16 out of Cleveland the last time the tourney was here. Beat a good Bama team and that real good BC team w Jared Dudley. Six straight tourneys w UT including an Elite Eight run last year.

One year at ESPN, then a pretty nice gig somewhere is my call.

Or maybe he goes the Kelvin Sampson route ... and admits he's too corrupt to be a college coach and he flies to the NBA.

There's no doubt he can coach. I just think he'll be ostracized for not just the NCAA violations at Tenn, but also this (I had the facts wrong...it was when he was an assistant at Iowa):

Twenty years ago, Pearl was an assistant at Iowa when the Hawkeyes and Illinois were recruiting top high school prospect Deon Thomas. Pearl recorded Thomas, who by then had committed to Illinois, admitting that he had received a car from an Illinois assistant and turned the tape over to the NCAA.

Though the NCAA never was able to back up Pearl’s claim, the subsequent investigation revealed other violations and Illinois was handed a one-year postseason ban.

Pearl, in the meantime, learned that college coaches can be as strict as the Amish when it comes to shunning.

It took Pearl three years to get a job, and even then it was at Division II Southern Indiana. He took the dormant program to two national title games, and by 1995 he won the whole thing. That’s about the time some bigger school usually swoops in to steal away the savvy coach, but not so for Pearl.

He was still the coach with cooties. No one would hire him, not as a head coach, not as an assistant.

Now, in addition to being rat, he's a hypocrite.

I think he lands at a small program after a few years with ESPN.

If Tennessee was smart they would hire Gary Waters. And I am 100% serious about that.

My guess is that they look at Richmond's coach and Shaka Khan from VCU though.

Smart makes the most sense (no pun intended)
