It's part Short Mans Syndrome, part trying to endear himself to a fan base that he knows have just completely tuned out the Indians (Joe Fan at least) because of their perception that the Dolan's don't care about winning, and only about making $.

Sure ... he wants to win. He wants to profit more. The two go hand in hand to a large degree, even more so with the raised stakes of the casino coming to town less than a half mile from The Q.

Again, the fan base will start to see his true colors after 2-3 seasons of 55-60 losses.

I'm conflicted. His attitude has proved itself to be ridiculous over the past year (and I'd even include the long-standing little things like the stupid entertainment overload they have at the Q). Between the LeBron letter (a lot of fun at the time but Gund's classy Boozer letter in '04 looks a million times better in hindsight), all of the tweets pimping these random young scrubs to ridiculous levels, and barely dropping ticket prices for next year, I'm getting a little fed up. I'm all for keeping a positive attitude about the future but I don't think he's properly acknowledged what a rusty coathanger abortion the last 10 months have been.

But at the same time, the guy has put his money where his mouth is just about every time he's had the chance. Paying eight figures for a low lottery pick in a weak draft is just about unheard of and is this team's only real chance to get better. And while Swerb is right in that this is all to make money (which is true for just about any team), he strikes me as someone who genuinely wants to give his customers a good product too (at least for the Cavs, mortgages are a different story).

You're right in general (i.e. Jamison trade) but in this trade, Baron had the exact same contract length as Mo. So, Gilbert basically paid cash for the pick. I really don't see the downside unless you think $4M of cap room in Cleveland, Ohio will actually make a difference over the next two years. All I'm saying is that stockpiling draft picks seems like our best shot at respectability and Gilbert seems willing to spend the requisite amount to make it happen. I'll actually be more impressed if he uses the trade exception to get another lotto pick next year. Again, I'm conflicted and maybe it's just Gilbert preying on my Dolan distaste, like Swerb said. I just respect the fact that he's making an effort.

Now, if you think the team's previous moves may have caused too big of a crater to escape, I can't really disagree but that's a different argument.

What if flipping Mo next year could land you a young wing player, better than the guy you are going to get at #8?

EOD, reports say this deal was on the table for a pretty lengthy amount of time. And as soon as we got to the deadline, the little guy pushed the button. Show some patience for a change.

$12 million for what is now the 8th pick seems about right. Considering a low 20's pick would cost the full $3 million allowed. IMO all the moves made since LeBron left are the right moves.

Yeah - good thing our awesome owner took mental notes about a writer that predicted that the Cavs would win only 12 games because they would do the smart thing and blow the team entirely up (SO GLAD WE STILL HAVE JAMO, ANDY AND PARKER BABY!!!!!). I like the out of the box thinking. I don't think anyone has really used that M.O. when trying to rebuild a team.

It will cost money either way if the goal is to really compete again. Either we over pay free agents or take on other teams salary for picks.

I like the notion of going with the young guys. I just get worried about all 3 being up for their first real contract at the same time. You have to work with what you got and Cleveland isn't the most attractive destination. Money talks.

Very good article on the Presti Plan. Presti is just legendary at getting the most possible from his cap space in trades. He landed 3 first round picks for Kurt Thomas. (2) in taking on his salary, then another whn the Spurs needed his size. We can only pray that Grant can maximize like that.

On the flip side if we do somehow take on Hamilton's deal for a first rounder I think its pretty clear that we are spending more money to acquire assets to that Presti got cheaper. Guy is the best at what he does.

It's O.K. to quote, I wear big boy pants. Calling the plan "out of the box" was obviously not accurate. OKC and the Blazers are two great examples of what a good front office can do to get a team competitive again.

I hope we have the luck of OKC with Durant and Westbrook.

I'm tempted to send her the link Wabo posted about the crack ho with $52, a wrench, a box of Twinkies, a spatula, a set of false teeth, 9 bags of heroin and a couple Fisher-Price toys up her vag.
