TCF March Madness Meet-Up

Unread postby skatingtripods » Fri Feb 18, 2011 6:55 pm

Never too early to fire this up. March Madness day one coincides with St. Patrick's Day this year. All the more reason to get together and have a good time. Last year was awesome out at Coach's off E. 305th. Where to this year?

Take the first two days off every year, would love to drive in, but if there is anything irritates me more than picking 8/9 match-ups it is amateur drinkers behaving like buffoons on March 17th.

Was going to start a thread, but I'll put it here: anyone going to the first round games at the Q. Got my tickets in the mail on Thursday. Cannot wait. Besides watching the Bucks in the final 4, I can't imagine anything better. First experience, can't wait. A good chance these games may feature OSU and Pitt, if they can both take care of business.

300th post bitches!!! :partyers: I know, for some it's a solid afternoon.

Squints, I'll be there. Lucked into some nice club seats in C127. Lets meet up for a couple AM cold ones before the 1st session Friday.

Good point on March 17th issue. Might have to schedule any TCF dealio for either the Friday or Saturday after. I know it ain't Day 1 but I'm with Squints in not suffering the ridiculous number of drunken assholes that will be in a bar and on the roads.

I usually end up taking the Friday off and rolling thru the weekend. Any chance of breaking that tradition this year is nil.

Unless I change my mind and wanna stroll into a place that's filled with lifers 5 hours in on green beer.

Hell, the thought of taking a vacation day on St. Patricks day makes me feel like a hump.

I'm fine with Friday. I've got a hockey game that night, not sure what time. But I'd be good from 11-4 or so.

Pusses...

Thursday, day 1 is Tradition!!!

Lucky Charms eatin boiled beef & drinkin red beer aren't gonna be everywhere that afternoon...

As long as the tavern doesn't start with a Mc, O', Murph, Erin or Kelly then we're solid...

Head out to one of the dives near Peek's house and the only cabbage you'll see is the mulla exchanging hands for 32oz PBRs, pork rinds & ice cream sandwiches...

Someone pick a place and let's watch some B-Ball :thumb up:

(besides, I've got tix for Friday's games and can't make it) :hide:

Yeah, Friday won't work for me either. If it's nice, I'm playing golf with a couple teammates before we go drink and watch basketball before our 6 pm game. If it isn't nice, I'm drinking over in Lakewood somewhere before our game.

If there's a meet-up Friday before the games, I can try to get there in time. I have to be non-committal as we have to do life things before we can make the drive.

Date day for the afternoon and then ditching the wife for some quality father/son time in the p.m. followed by a dad's day out on Sunday. Feel like Jimmy Fallon as he was divvying up his season tickets in Fever Pitch.

Can't wait. Now that I'm working a flex schedule I have Thursdays off so I'm down....

after going to my sons St Pat's Day party at daycare

and after he gets up from his nap, probably around 3ish

after I get the 3 mo old fed and down for his nap

maybe after going to pick up wife from the airport as she gets home from seminar on the 6pm flight

maybe after we sit down to dinner and get our chance to see each other

maybe after I give the kids a bath and get them ready for bed.

That'll work. By the time I get all that done and meet up w/ you guys I should catch the second half of the last game

FML

I'll see you next year after I get snipped in the morning. I'll be the tall guy walking in like John Wayne w/ a bag of frozen peas to sit on.

Lead and I wanna watch the afternoon games somewhere. You have a place in mind we can go?

Eff everybody else. We'll make it known where we'll hang out and if anyone shows up other then the three of us, well, that's fine. I've grown tired of trying to organize stuff.

What about the spot across the street from Classic Park? That place still open and operational? Like across the street from Vince's, not Beef O'Brady's and that shit.

The place is called (originally enough) The Captain's Club.

They have a $5 lunch menu every day, domestics are $2.25 or $2.50 domestic drafts (16oz).

$1 off drinks til 6pm too.

I just know it's big and the bar food was decent when I tokk Lisa and the girls in there after a Captain's game.

That work? I guess Scorcher's is there too. Or we go up on rt 20 to Panini's.

OR we go downtown Willoughby to Burgers N Beer or one of those joints.

Call it Pup.

CALL IT!!

Meeting up with two buddies around noon in Lakewood cause we have a game at 6 in Lakewood. Bad weekend for my annual tournament. But, if it wasn't tourney weekend, I'd be stuck going to Jennifer's sister's wedding in South Carolina.

I'm still free Thursday, though. And desperately searching for someone to watch hoops with.

After a brief deliberation and consultation Pup and I are gonna go with Burgers & Beer at noon Friday.
That's in downtown Willoughby for the uninitiated.

And any of you Sally's heading to the Buckeyes game are welcome to come have a beer with us for the noon games before you head down.

If gas wasn't $3.50/gallon, I'd think about it. Just so I could laugh at your neighbor with the Girls Gone Wild addiction and chuckle to myself about you being 3 feet taller than your wife.

I have to work until about 4-5. I'll stop down there if people will still be there. I don't want to pull in at 6 and see the sun reflecting off some bald asshole's dome as he's driving away.

Hold on.

Deliberatin'.......

Hope to have a last word on this soon.

But to your question, Buckeyes start at 440. Leaving before is too soon so I'm likely there til that ends for sure.

Just finalizing where 'there' is.

I'm liking Hooley House and their 25 TVs along with their really good bar food.

And hey, Pup ain't bald.

I just got great news. My wife's cousin and here husband are going to be in town friday. They are going to the Xavier game. They have 2 kids. Now, instead of drinking beer and watching basketball at a bar with some guys I haven't met but talk to daily, I might get to help my wife watch her cousins kids.

Maybe if you would stand up to your wife and tell her what's what instead of being the bitch in the relationship there'd be no problem.

Wait. Yesterday you were bitching about the guy that puts the decision off on someone else, then complains about the selection.

Now, after I make the call, exactly how many changes do you plan on making to the location? I am going to go read my PM that is probably from you, but figured I would drop something off for you on my way... :loadof:

I'm still on meds. I have no idea what you're talking about because the meds erase my memory each morning.

So you chose Hooley House, right?

Sweet. What was the day and time again? :hide:

Hooley House on Friday.

It's just south of the Rt2/Rt306 interchange on Rt 306 in Mentor. Behind Chipotle. If you go under the railroad tracks you just went by the place on your left and need to turn around.

They have really good food and I know they have Conway's on tap plus other shit too.

At least 22 TVs because my 10 yr old annoyed me by counting them one afternoon.

No more changes.

Hooley House on Friday afternoon.

I'll be there round about noon.

Bump.

Where we going this year, gents?

Thursday or Friday?

No annual hockey tourney this year, so I'm up for whatever.

I'm off work next week Thurs-Sunday so I may be interested in meeting up with this crew. Be interesting to meet those of you that I haven't met already through the TCF Golf outing. Do you guys get it started at noon? I've got a conference Thursday evening in Beachwood so if it's a late-afternoon/evening thing I'd be unable to make it.

Originally me and some buddies had planned on Vegas next weekend, but one by one they kept dropping out till it was just me and one other guy left. Already had those days off locked in so now looking for something constructive (or would this be deconstructive?) to do.

I'm not coming. I don't want your hopeless negativity and sad bitterness to affect my sunshine and puppy dogs outlook on life.

Hung out with the guys in the past and had a blast. Working this year on those days though. First time in a few years. I'll be watching the following week's games in Sanibel, so small price to pay.
