Given the weakness of the draft, I would have no complaints if the Cavaliers selected Kyrie Irving. The kid is a player and realistically, any player could go down with an injury, just seems like that would be the coup de grace on what has already been a wonderful 2011. His ability to penetrate should make him successful. I know some guys question his height but Rajon Rondo isn't the biggest fella and I would take him in a heartbeat.

Irving would be the least of the Cavaliers' worries if selected. It wouldn't suck either to get Harrison Barnes or Enes Kanter, but that's me.

Williams is a great college talent, but at 6'8" he would be another in the mold of tweener at PF. We have those guys already on the roster. IMO, he is too slow to play the 3 and too short to play the 4. Against NBA athletes he won't have the same level of production.

Irving is the obvious #1, after that its all how it falls out, but I'm meh on him and Sullinger.

I am really confused as of to why you have no vision when it comes to the modern NBA and the positional revolution (aka the lack of a position revolution). Smith, Odom, Dirk, Love, etc…. all have one or another non-traditional physical trait when compared to traditional 4’s. A player like Williams would be a tweener in the mold of what OKC wished Jeff Green would turn into. Mad offensive skills, ability to guard smaller fours and bigger threes, etc….

I’ll take a guy like that with our second pick every day of the week. Just like I would take a ten years ago Jamo every day of the week.

You have to build your roster correctly around a guy that has size issues like him at the four/three hybrid role (like Smith, Atlanta has needed a big fat guy to put next to him and Horford against Dewey and the Lakers forever and Williams can shoot, unlike Smith). He could be a rich man’s Jeff Green, which is a pretty huge prospect.

There are only so many traditional teams left and their numbers are dwindling. The effing Celtics are running Baby as their crunch time Center these days. Chris Bosh is playing the 2 guard down in Miami. Williams would be a player similar to Bosh, but with more ability to create and more athleticism at the expense of height.

Not saying I 100% want him with that second pick, but he’s sure as fuck in the running.

A guy like him gives you a dynamic weapon you find a way to build around. Unlike a fat short slow guy like Sullinger, who gives you an okay post scorer that is short and can’t do anything else.

And fuck Kemba Walker. He isn’t more athletics than your average NBA PG and if he isn’t out athleting you he is useless. Bad shooter, bad pure PG, bad bad bad.

And Kyrie is still the best prospect in the draft, period. So silly how people pretend like players such as Wanna-Be-AI are going to be great NBA players. Gilbert drafts Kemba in the top ten and I am done until he sells the team.

I think on a roster like the one the Cavs have you might need two years of BPA. Maybe you catch a break and there's a big man you can grab there but this team blows athletically. They have an old, fat PG and midget two guards that can't guard anyone along with a bean pole 'center' that gets blown out of the lane if the air conditioning kicks on. And the guys with any athletic ability either have the intelligence of a thalidomide baby or they have no fucking basketball skills like Gee.

Derrick Williams has shooting percentages look like this: 60%, 60%, 60%, 75% (FG, 2P, 3P, FT). And that's with shooting almost two 3 pointers a game. PER of 32.7, EFF/40 of 29. I don't care if he is a 6'5 center, this kid is a baller. Agree with Lee on the change of PF in the NBA, so wouldn't be too worried if we get Williams (as long as it isn't at the expense of drafting Kyrie)

Rumor is Kantor won't be at Nike Hoops Summit. Kid hasn't really played in the last 2 years, that makes me iffy on him.

I will retract any previous statements I have made about Barnes, seems like he can actually play when he has a decent point guard.

Jameson is 32 and has bad knees and Williams is more explosive. That said the Celtics are my biggest worry for him, mainly because Pierce and KG are so deadly together. That said, DEPTH is necessary to beat them and it doesn't matter because KG is gonna be dead before teh Cavs matter again.

Ohio State was able to do to teams what Orlando did to the Cavaliers several years ago. Either you double Sullinger/D.Howard or live with them draining 3's. Harrelson is big enough to single up on Sully, taking away both the 3 and making it hard for the inside points.

Watching that is what makes me fearful of these short tweeners, and before eye jumps over this weak take, I understand that D. Williams is more athletic and a better shooter (with range) then Sullinger. Flipside is the NBA players defending Williams will be his athletic equal, this guy isn't an athletic freak, and will be fast/tall enough to challange his shot.

Irving reminds me a bit of Terrell Brandon. He seems so good already at running a team, and I really like his quickness and his jumper. I don't think he has the athletecism to be a top-tier PG on the Rose/Williams level, but I absolutely think that if he's your starting PG, you can win a title.

Williams is an interesting prospect. He reminds me a bit of Corliss Williamson, except Williams is a much better shooter than I thought he would be. If he's there with the Clippers pick, depending on who else is there I won't be upset if we take him.

I'm not sure this draft has an elite player, though Irving is as close as it's going to have. So my mentality going into the draft would be to find players who I think can be good 2nd or 3rd bananas on a championship team, then hopefully get your #1 next year (or maybe even 2013...I'm going to watch Andre Drummond very closely).

He was the only double digit scorer on his team for the season, no one else grabbed more than 4.6 boards, no one dished 3 assists, or stole or blocked more than he did on Arizona.

I get the concerns about his size and his role, but the kid was an absolute workhorse for his team. You go ahead and question why he wasn't more dominate, I'll question why Arizona got as deep as they did. I think he is a solid mid/late-lottery pick.

Now, did ya read the on/off portion of the thread.

One night the guy will give you 22 and 10 and and another game you get 16 and 2 with a 3/10 effort from the line (which speaks directly to concentration and focus given he's a 75% for the year and a month later goes 12/12 from the tline).

If a guy's going to average 17 and 8 then I don't want him getting it because he had as many 32 and 15 nights as 10 and 4 nights.

That's what I'm saying. Another situation where stats are misleading. Dude disappears at times. Look at Friday night's stats. Sullinger looks like he outplayed Harrelson. In actuality that's not the case.

I don't want another Hickson with the lottery pick unless it's 10-14 and you have no choice. He can dominate when he cares to. But I question how often he cares to.

No doubt Peeks, my only rebuttle is that in this draft getting a guy at 5-10 that you would normally grab at 10-15 is not an issue.

And again, I like Barnes as a guy with our second pick as well, just am real scared by his complete inability to create a shot and his less than ideal catch and shoot while having a guy within 10 yards of him FG splits.

As for Knight, not gonna blast anyone, guy very talented. Just also averages 86 turnovers a game and hasn't shown any true point ability. In this draft you could do far worse than his upside. Just don't want him in the top three.

And Jones is a bigger Tweener than Williams. He's Williams without 60% three shooting.
