Hi all. Didn't know where to put this, but I have to keep myself occupied. Yesterday afternoon, my fiancée of a year ended the relationship 6 months before we were to get married. I guess its better to happen now rather than when were settled in and having kids. I just don't understand. I've been with friends and family since yesterday afternoon is great, and since I try to be an engaged poster on these forums, it felt right getting this out there because I don't want my mind to wander. Sucks dude. I know how you feel and it sucks. All I can say is this.

I was engaged to a girl right at the end of college. We'd been together forever, engaged for around a year. Same as you she dumped me about 8 months or so before tying the knot.

Best damn thing that ever happened to me in my entire life. Seriously. Looking back I'm so thankful that she saw it because I never would have before it was too late. If we got married one of 2 things would be true right now: 1) I'd be divorced (hopefully without kids) or 2) I'd be absolutely miserable.

I can't begin to tell you all the ways that my wife now is better for me than that girl was. Holy shit. I'm break out in cold sweats right now thinking of how close I was to that other life, rather than the one I have now.

I know it's too fresh and there's no way you could possibly see it, but she might have done you a huge favor.

Do 2 things: Hang with friends and drink beer. The pain will pass but it will take a while.

Always recommend you wait till about 35 to get married. Lotta cats used to bust my balls about it till they......turned 35, and had a lot of crap from their past they had to deal with that I didn't. The point? Scratcher is correct, tough to look at the bright side now I'm sure - but all that happened is you got dumped. Happens to us all at some point, and it blows.

But if it'd happened to you two years from now you'd be a lot more than dumped.

And time passes, and things get better, and that's pretty much how life works.

The fact this thread blew up into the triumphant return of Wab and the practice of bestiality puts the slightest of smiles on my face. Still stucks to be at home, but I did stock the house with this to take the edge off. You know what you wouldn't believe? For as much I know and talk about beer/spirits, I don't drink in quantity very often. Probably average 4-5 beers a week. That number will probably go up in the near term due to recent events.

Crash and Burn? It was that bad? If so, very very surprising and somewhat disappointing to me. I was looking forward to trying that at one point. I had a bottle of Balvanie 12 Doublewood last summer and thought it was fantastic. I am of the opinion scotches are at their very best between 12 and 15 years. As they age, they get too peaty and dry for my palate. That being said, there are old ones out there like Glenlivet 18 and Macallan 21 that have a bit more pop, but still smooth with good notes of fruits and spice.

FYI - I almost always try scotches/bourbons/whiskey before I buy a bottle but didn't do so with the Glenfid 15. Cracked it open last night and wow, its one of the smoothest and possibly the sweetest scotch I've ever had. Don't read that as being sugary sweet, but it has the very strong vanilla/floral notes that a lot of good Speysides have.
