Both were great. The Souther Tier was 11%, and surprisingly smooth. The Pyramid was 8.5%, and very crisp. Hopheads will like it quite a bit.

That Colorado fest ranks up at the top of nearly any list you can find ranking beer festivals.

And its not like you can't find other things in Colorado to fill up a few days while you are there.

WIlloughby Brewing Company, with their new line of beers, has created one of the best Black IPAs ive had. Probably the best. Its called Hopjam and reminds me a lot of Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale. Went out with my bro and another friend last night to drown the sorrows at 1899. They are wrapping up their IPAlooza beer tour this week and they had it on tap. Try it if you have the chance.

Moreso than Ten Fidy, GLBC BO, Hopping Frog, and Rasputin RIS. Very little carbonation, low heat, creamy like silk with nice hints of chocolate, wood, and espresso leaning more toward the latter. Might be the darkest/opaque beer I've ever seen. World of Wines in Mentor received a case and I bought half of it. At $11.99/4, its on the pricey side but if you like stouts, make an effort to find this stuff. Its that good.

Yep. Champs in State College has it on tap along with might be the very best beer menu on tap in the world.

Truth be told, I've been a beer hunter for a few years now. When you spend enough money and keep good relationships with the folks who own good stores like Save-On, Wines and Liquors, World of Wines, Rozi's, Chucks, and a few others, doors open up. You can always go to Buckeye Beer Engine and the Brewkettle and buy rare stuff, but it is marked way the hell up. The take out menu for the Beer Engine is outstanding, but if you stocked your house with their stuff, you'd go broke pretty quick. I need to get down to Vintage Estates in Boardman and Anderson's in Bowling Green. Heard each has very rare offerings.

EDIT: Another good way is by becoming a trader on BeerAdvocate. I have not done much there, but its easy to get rare bottles/beers that don't distribute to Ohio if you can develop a good reputation. Hell, we can do that on the forums here. Ziner and I made a trade months ago: a 6r of Xmas Ale for a 4 pack of Ten Fidy + extra stuffs. He has Oskar Blues out there in Colorado which is a great brewery, but they don't ship to Ohio. While its illegal in many states to ship alcohol across state lines, its easy as long as you pack it correctly and be coy with what's inside. I did mine through FedEx and they didn't ask me a thing regarding the contents.

FYI - I also have a 2008 vintage bottle of Gulden Draak, Founder's Backwoods Bastard i've cellared for 2 years, and the Piece de Resistance a 08-08-08 Vertical Epic from Stone. Not sure how that is going to be considering its a Belgian IPA (IPAs typically do not get better with age and are meant to be had fresh. Belgian's are different due to the type of yeast and the combination of being typically higher gravity with addition dextrose/sugar)

Just remember, that if you intend to catch a buzz, 2-4 high calorie brews may get the job done more efficiently than 6-8 low cal offerings.

I'm in a similar situation, need to lose 10-15, but I'll switch to bourbon or scotch before I pick up an ultra, but that's me, YMMV.
