Is this fun to follow?

Unread postby CAVSTRIBEBROWNSin07! » Tue Jan 25, 2011 9:39 pm

I know I'm not the only one who didn't really enjoy the regular season last year all that much (and to some degree the year before as well). It all felt so meaningless, like a 6 month long preseason to the inevitable playoffs. Somehow, despite all the losing, I'm kinda sorta enjoying this season even more than last year. First off, if you gotta root for a bad team, its kinda fun to root for a historically bad team, yknow? Plus when (if) the Cavs win a game, I will actually celebrate it, unlike last year when I expected it. I was cheering my ass off at the game last night when Graham hit the game tying 3. Last year, it would have probably just elicited an "about time".

So is it just me? Am I crazy?

If I gave a shit about bad basketball I'da been excited over the UCONN women's streak.

The Cavaliers are just bad, bad basketball. In virtually every sense.

Hope they get a few wins to avoid national embarassment, but I'm not sure if I can handle much more of watching them attempt to do so.

Did you see Carolyn's article in regard to the people in Orlando going ape-shit crazy?

Funny.

People?

Mike Bianchi is the worst of the worst of the worst.

That said, the piece she quoted and the piece I linked above are in a two horse race for worst NBA article of the year.

I find it funny.

Good point on 'people' given it was the author only. It's just great that dude pretty much has decided Howard owes the city a new deal.

Tremendous.

This season would be fun if we had a few legit pieces and were one young player away from making a run, but we are not in that position, so no this sucks. Fact of the matter is there is a chance* that by the time the Cavaliers are good again (if they are the Cleveland Cavaliers) that roster will not have a single player on it from this roster.

Gonna reserve you the right to start the game thread for the history making loss.

It was either you, Cass or Amico. Amico ain't around, Cass is on his honeymoon I believe and, well, that pretty much leaves you.

Why not just a losing streak thread? Might be easier to keep all the loses in one location.

That's what the standings are for.

The record setting loss is something special and should treated as such.

We have to let OJ light the wick for that one if Cass ain't around. ;-) ;)

That sad part is Minny and da Kings are only 2 games ahead of us and we had to lose 28 of 29 or some crap just to get a 2 game cushion? WTF.

True.

But I fully expect the Cavs to lose another 12-15 straight starting the game after they break this string. It will be funnier because of Lord Byron's speech the night they break the streak about them working hard and playing for each other every day.

I can't wait really.

This team is a Bizarro goldmine.

So effing great that they're this horrific when mediocrity was expected. This is cleaner, faster and better.

I think Dunphy and Comic Sans knew what they were doing when they hired a coach who can't/won't teach a lick of defense to a bunch of guys who are 9-12 on most legit NBA teams now that the the legit 5-8 guys are all hurt.

We have to be the smallest, least talented roster in the NBA, 'specially post injury bug. I don't think defense can be taught when you have ZERO paint presence. I don't think healthy Andy intimidates/stops people from driving the lane at will. Can't defend the three when half the team has to collapse the middle to prevent a lay-up drill. We really need to sign a D-League goon...

Ugh just horrible. Good thing Cavalier fan is so totally a fair weather fuck. This version of the Cavaliers will be the Ricky/Darius/Diop/Wagner years most of those clowns never knew existed. I still have faith in Gilbert. (No need to respond eyeyeyeyeyeye)

btw is (our/NBA) record 24?

*Seems we hold it at 24 but it was split between 2 seasons. I don't count that shit, so I guess 23 is the current record? Verdict???

That's not good. There's still an entire generation of jagoffs who believe that the Indians contending every year is a birth right as opposed to a blip or an exception.

You know what? It is good. Give the front running humps a taste of the fact this franchise has been relevant in only about 10 of the 40 years it's existed (and arguably less than that).

I believe it's 23.

I don't think they span two different seasons and if they do that's a separate record.

Maybe someone knows for sure. I don't care. You can start the game threads for 23, 24 and 25. I feel safe that nothing will get in the way of it. ;-) ;)

I can't take that avatar seriously. Regardless that your Heat point is a good one.

But the avatar kills it.

And there are still plenty of toolboxes here who think the franchise started in 2003

I love this team. They are consistent. You know what you're gonna get. They have raised bad to a new level. On a relative basis the 2011 Cavs make the Indians and Browns look almost competent.

I thought they were going to be a fringe playoff team. This should qualify me to work as some sort of sports writer for the Plain Dealer.

Look on the bright side, it could be 29 in a row IIRC had Amare made his jump shot at the end of regulation in the Cavs last win. :nanner:
"It's all about winning for me, and I think the Cavs are committed to doing that," he said. "But at the same time I've given myself options to this point, and like I said before, me and my team, we have a game plan that we're going to execute, and we'll see what we get."

No.

So you do what Cleveland does and check out until they rebuild and be glad for the tanking. Best part is draft may suck without youth infusion, so next year will be more of the same + one good, but not great rookie added.

They are assurred of 3 lotto picks. We should all be back by about 2015.

Let's not try and demean Browns supporters in an attempt to feel better about this basketball team. As Cavs fans we should probably just own it, swallow it and hope to hell that the people responsible for fixing it aren't a bunch of fuck-ups.

Interesting case I have seen more than once.... C-town owes LBJ two BJs.

1) the title "contenders" over 7 years

2) he was so good his leaving let us skip the mediocrity thing, we went straight to top of the lottery. Win-win. And I'm just pretending like Kyrie is on this team from here on out.

Question for all of you who care to answer: is this the worst Cleveland team you've ever seen? Worse than the '99 Browns '91 Indians or 02-03 Cavaliers?

I can't imagine any Cleveland team being worse than this one, especially since I wasn't around for the 1899 Spiders.

lol.

At least the Cavs made most of the last decade exciting. The Browns suck like a black hole. A truly awful and hopeless franchise. It's embarrassing. Don't get me warped, this Cavs team is pretty much the epitome of bad basketball. But it's been 1 year, not a decade like the Turds in Orange.

Because of one lucky ping pong ball. Clearly (despite what a couple will argue).

I'm talking this year CDT. The Cavs and Browns are much farther apart. As sad and pathetic (and far off) as it may actually be, name me the franchise in this town today that is closest to a title.

The Cavs are about to set a mark of historical ineptitude. The Browns were not historically inept.

That can't be argued. I guess we can go polar again though with someone claiming that my comment means the Browns are good. But there's a difference between not being good and being the 2010-2011 Cavs. I'm sure intelligent people like you will acknowledge that fact.

I guess to your overriding point that we're effed.... yes... true dat.

lol, I am demeaning Browns supporter (I'm almost still one). You have 3 straight seasons of 25 or less NBA wins. Look at the brilliance there, it debases people. I'll never understand the mindset of people who are still in love with the NFL and especially the Browns. Its crap.

Not looking for a debate. Cuz we'll never agree. To each his own.

^That was worse then the Cavaliers '10-'11 EZ.

I wonder what a 44-7 loss to the Ravens would extrapolate to in basketball???

I'm not defending anything if you take your blinders off and open your eyes. I said this season. Is there a different language that would explain that? :pb:

There are 16 games in an NFL season and 82 in hoops meaning you multiply wins and losses by pretty much five, right?

So, this season, in NBA terms, the Browns won the equivalent of 25 NBA games. Horrible. Pathetic. Not worthy of OJ's time and attention especially when he was hoping for twice that. :hide:

But this season's Cavs ain't gonna make it there.

That's all. :salute:

And if I was really being a dick I'd also advise you that the Browns season you named above, the equivalent, btw, of the Cavs 71-72 season, still ain't as bad as this year's Cavs team because that Browns team woulda won 15 games in that NBA example and the Cavs prolly won't get even there. Basic math my man. ;-) ;)

Thank God I'm not being a dick huh? :spanky:

Just to remind those who may have forgotten: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=310111013

The Lakers-Cavs game was more embarrassing IMO. But that's because I've only followed the Cavs for 40 seasons and my parents put a Browns pennant in my crib 44 years ago so I'm picking on the Cavs.

I am an admitted poor sport. I hate loosing Sorry to my kid. I have stopped looking at the cavs as an NBA team. I look at them as a farm team seeing who will be good bench players when the real team comes back to town.

I root for Boobie,Christian Eyenga to dunk on somebody, and JJ to finally play at full speed(still waiting).

Right now, not really. The only stuff worth watching is to see if Eyenga's worth holding on to.

As far as worst team ever, that depends. Talent and winning wise, its on par with those teams you mentioned. As far as 'worst' though, I'll vote for the '90 Browns and '08 Tribe. Seeing the cliff coming is one thing, not seeing it coming is a lot more painful.

So when the Cavaliers string together as many shit seasons as the Browns I'll take the blinders off. You have this season, I'll use the last 20 years. Lord knows I don't want the 50's and 60's brought into the discussion. I just stated its like watching the Browns. Cuz, well they suck, and this years Cavaliers suck.

Herm asked for worst all time. The Browns season I listed is what I feel to be the worst.

Although Dennis Northcutt and Kevin Johnson started that wildcat shit against the Eagles that year. Wayyyy before the Dolphins.

OMG fuck Ryan Hollins too.

Watching him play hurts. So no that isn't fun. Or Hickson.

Dunno how old you are OJ. Let's suffice it to say that in my 35 years or so of conscious Cavs hoops they had the Miracle of Richfield season and MAYBE three of the seasons of LeBron as 'legit' title contenders. I'll fall off my chair if anyone thought the Daugherty Cavs was that team as opposed to a decent finesse team in a town dying to make more out of any decent team than it actually was worth.

The Browns have had the same number of those chances in the 35 years or so I've been watching, only difference being the majority of Cavs chances came in last 10 years while the Browns literally started over from ground zero.

You want a legit comparison? Compare this Browns team to the first 11 years of the Cavs.

End of day this is asking if you prefer a kick in the balls or a shovel to the face. None of it matters and it's a pissing contest of the most pathetic proportion. But please man, don't tell me I'm not aware of the number of shit seasons. I've had far more of these lost seasons with both teams than ones with hope. So I tend to remember the hopeful one pretty well. :thumb up:

If Ryan Hollins didn't foul someone, or be on pace to set the league record for 3 second violations, you wouldn't even know he was alive.

And O, stop. The Cleveland Cavaliers, wire to wire, are in the argument for sorriest franchise ever. And, if not for a fortuitous ping pong ball, they'd be the front runner. I've said this before, but Christ, you could argue they've had two days that have given them any relevance. Daugerty, HR, Price draft day, and LBJ day. They've had far more history making days of comedy, such as being banned from trading or taking the word of a modern NBA player and letting him walk.

You can call the Browns a joke, but if you're doing it as a defender of the Cavs...hypocritical isn't a strong enough word.

By the way, what a pathetic position us Cleveland sports fans are in. We are no more pathetic then basing our sports fandom existence on rooting for other teams to lose, instead of our to win. We're left to root for Pittsburgh to lose the SB. Left to root for the Heat to fall on their faces. Left to root against any MLB team that spends money. Happened so long I've become apathetic to it all. I hate the Steelers, but I ain't gonna miss a bite of my wings should they win. Hate the Heat, but know darn well they are gonna cash in sooner or later.

Wake me when someone here has a chance.

My point is clearly stated. I also understand Peeks time frame and agree with that. Agree that from inception the Cavaliers are near Buffalo Braves, San Diego/Los Angeles Clippers horrible.

Still don't think they are the worst Cleveland team I have watched. Still the 2000 Browns by far.

My "aware" years begin in the very late 80's. Pretty sure I confined everything to that time frame.
