Did anyone even watch it? Does anyone even care anymore? I'll be honest...didn't watch even one second of coverage on it. I read the speech this morning, and watched OSU dismantle Purdue last night. I am 100% convinced that I made the right decision.

-A lot of standing and cheering by Democrats
-Republicans looked like curmudgeons and sat on their hands
-Obama was really verbose, but really said nothing
-He also looked down his nose as he spoke as if he is above everyone (that really drives me nuts)
-There were a bunch of things said, but today will be business as normal
-FoxNews factchecked everything he said
-MSNBC took it as gospel
-Chris Matthews got another thrill up his leg
-Keith Olbermann tweeted another angry message
-Sean Hannity called him a socialist
-Boehner looked like an orange
-Pelosi looked plastic
-McConnell still had no face bones
-There were token examples of some social or international program sitting next to Michelle Obama
-The women discussed Michelle Obama's dress

I watched it. Obama is a great speaker. The delivery was good ... but the content, to me, was off.

Little to no detail. Not even any real talk about the deficit till like 45 min in. Talk about how we are falling behind countries like China (very true) ... it's just sad that this is now making its way into a State of the Union speech. That country is running laps around us. All their kids know general business practices and how to speak English by age 8. I am terrified at what relations are going to be like with them in 15-20 years.

Real nice not having to look at Pelosi over his shoulder anymore though. However, Boehner had a pink tie on and looked like he was crying like 2 min in. For anyone that missed the 60 Minutes piece on Boehner a month back, he's a serial crier.

I can't take the god damn clapping though. 83 clap breaks in 62 minutes. Who are these assholes that start clapping after every sentence? There's like 10-20 of em that insist on doing it. Obama talked through another 20 attempted clap breaks.

State of the Union, President is speaking to the American people, not Congress. Why the need to clap every 30 seconds? It's so annoying.

Read the text this morning...I mean, come on...the Buckeyes were playing.

To hear him tell it, the record $1.5 trillion deficit this year is nothing to be concerned about....solar panels....Sputnick....high-speed rail....blah, blah, blah. No indication he has any intention of trying to reform entitlements, or that it's even necessary.

Still no indication he has any clue about job growth outside of government...let alone how to foster that growth with tax and regulatory policy.

It's as if the election never happened. It's not only tone-deaf...it's irresponsible.

BTW, the threat of being overtaken economically by China is fairly overblown. Their GDP is about $4 trillion....ours is about $14 trillion (and their growth rate is exaggerated) They have lots of structural and demographic and social problems that figure to stymie their growth before they overtake the U.S. As Mark Steyn has said..."they're going to get old before they get rich". They still have three times as many desperately poor people as we have people.

But yes, their educational system runs circles around ours...which is unsettling.

After watching it, I'd say he was dead on.

That's in large part because they have all of their kids marching in ONE direction with set core standards and the backing of their government who controls and helps FUND the educating of its citizens.

WE have our kids marching in 50 different directions with small if any funding from our central government and state controlled educational programs that are mostly a train wreck at best.

Whether they catch us or not, there might be something to learn from how they educate their kids. They also have alot of "Tiger Moms"

They're all goofs. Bending their words to fit an agenda without great cause or concern for Average Joe American. Not saying every politician isn't worth our trust or doesn't have good intentions, but Christ on a cracker how myopic is the American public when guys like Kucinich, Brown, Bush, Dewine and a laundry list of other hacks in and out of Ohio get frequently re-elected to office and things don't change. I'm speaking on all levels local to federal. F#$k me, is that the best that can be done or is it that you need to suck a lot of d#$# in politics to the point of foresaking what you hold true to fit in with either end of the spectrum? Call me jaded, call it shortsighted. I just fail to see how the biggest financial collapse in American history just sort of happened and no one had the foresight, aptitude, or balls to even try preventing it. I love this country and the freedoms it provides me, but JFC it pains me to think how many pricks got golden parachutes out of the mess these past 3 years and will never so much as get a slap on the wrist for it. As I said in the Books Thread regarding the book "The Ascent of Money", the John Law's are alive and well and probably having fun making money for a few at the expense of many.

^Those making that money will always be able to make that money. I'm hoping, and I caught Ryan's response and Rand Paul on Kudlow prior to the SoTU, that this influx of "new blood" will enable those currently outside that smart money to have a chance at making it big. IMO that is what seperates a truly dynamic economy/political environment from the stagnant decline that allows only those with power and influence to continue to prosper.
