Let the hating begin.
Browns fans are irrational in regard to OC's & expectations.

What difference does the OC make? HC is calling the plays.

Someone who isn't going to add a whole hell of a lot of value. I didn't mind the Shurmur hire, but him calling his own plays are stupid. I want a head coach to be able to manage the game on gameday, not worry about his next play choice.

No. It'll be a younger TE/WR/QB type coach who wants to move up and who can call plays when Shurmgren believes he's ready. Be stunned if an established OC who's had those duties takes this gig.

Why aren't you all frothing at the cake hole about there not being clear HC / OC seperation of duties? I think Ziner is spot on, andthis is a failure of delegation by a guy who doesn't know how to HC. Questionable.

Were they tight or was Mora Jr kind of forced on him by the GM after Holmgren was sort of clueless about running the D as a HC?
I seem to recall something like that.

And he prefers Joe Webb? Unlikely. I'd guess that he wants to really run the offense and call his own plays, and he can do that in Minny.

Little bit of both?
Of course, the Vikings could be laying groundwork to acquire a veteran that he likes?

Sources: Browns holding interviews

ESPN.com news services
The Cleveland Browns are interviewing former Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Billy Davis and former University of Pittsburgh coach Dave Wannstedt for their defensive coordinator job on Thursday, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
AFC North blog
ESPN.com's James Walker writes about all things AFC North in his division blog.
Wannstedt was forced out at Pitt last month after a season in which the Panthers failed to make a BCS bowl, despite being prohibitive favorites to win the Big East in a down year for the conference. He formerly coached the Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears after serving as Jimmy Johnson's defensive coordinator with the Dallas Cowboys and at the University of Miami.
The Cardinals fired Davis on Jan. 6, after a disappointing 5-11 season, in which Arizona was ranked 29th in overall defense and 30th in points allowed out of the league's 32 teams.
Davis was previously the San Francisco 49ers' defensive coordinator and served as a defensive assistant for six other NFL teams, including the Browns.
The Browns are hiring a defensive coordinator to replace Rob Ryan, who left Cleveland to take over the Dallas Cowboys' defense.

I'd prefer Wanny out of those two for sure.

He brings up the name Mike Trgovac. That's an Ohio guy (Youngstown to be specific) with plenty of West Coast ties who's been successful wherever he's gone before. Has coordinator experience and has both 4-3 and 3-4 experience which might help with a hybrid defensive scheme until the right personnel are acquired.
He's currently with the Packers as d-line coach.
My friend says he hasn't heard the name mentioned but he likes to go a bit deeper and see if he can put puzzle pieces together himself.

I hope that's what is going down, because the idea that no one is interested in coming here is very unsettling. It makes it seem like Shurmur is incredibly unprepared to be a HC, since most candidates already have the framework of their staff tentatively in place prior to being interviewed.
I want to feel good about Shurmur, but I have a very uneasy feeling.

Who is going to make the impression on the impressionables? The Walrus Myopians have told us time and time again the The Holmes will be hands off and let Shurmur run the show.
So far, he's running it straight into the ground..........
Grossly unfair, I admit. The guy has only been around for a week or so. Still, don't really like the way this is trending. When Dave efin Wannstedt turns you down to coach the Bills, you might have a slight credibility problem.

I get your trepidation, but maybe we should let him make his hires and watch a few games before we declare that things are running or have been run into the ground.
Also, dude, we don't say "running it straight into the ground" anymore. We prefer "the goddamn plane has crashed into the mountain."
