doesn't this sort of go against what MLK jr. was preaching? I thought it was supposed to be not judging a person by race, but by a man's character.

Race had very little to do with the backlash in c-town, if this was some mormon guy from BYU with blonde hair and blue eyes, who pulled the exact same stunt, don't you think the reaction would have been the same?
