So, now that Newton is likely going to enter the draft, how will Auburn be looking next year as far as the salary cap? Will they still be over?

Depends on the Boosters. If Jimmy "Slick Dick' Walters opens up his checkbook, the sky is the limit.

There are about a half-dozen teams that would beat Oregon on a neutral field. Bama, Ohio State, Wisconsin, TCU, Boise.

I can't believe Auburn needed a last-second FG to win, really. They dominated the LOS all night.

Meh fuck them too. Chip's gimmick stuff obviously is going to need an incredible talent at QB to beat any team with a powerful D-Line and Speed on the edge.

I want to hear his post-game to see if he's as whiny as he was last year.

Boise State and the Buckeyes whooped their ass with a better QB under center last year.

wasn't really impressed with them from the get-go.

Auburn I think could have been beaten by the Bucks, the way he was throwing the ball around in the first quarter would have been taken advantage of by the bucks defense.

not sure how the offense would have faired, but I imagine better than oregon's.

Two dumbest teams I think I've ever seen in a championship football game.

You can have Cam Newton as an NFL QB. Don't want any part of that guy and all the work that needs to be done on his game. How you don't put up 40 on that shitty Oregon defense is indefensible.

And for the next 30 minutes I'm going to try and find someone to translate at least some part of what Nick Fairley fucking said. I couldn't understand a word.

Purdue does cheat, just like every other school in the country.

Sour grapes. Best conference in the country year in and year out. Who cares? Simple fact. Not sure why your offended enough to post 75 times about it tonight.

And for the record, forget about quarterbacks and offenses and all the other bullshit. The SEC is dominating each and every one of these games with their defensive lines. They cause discomfort and the rest of the game follows suit. Lotta ripping on Cam here, but the Oregon QB looked like he was about to shat on the field. That's what pressure does. The rest of the country is waaaay behind in this respect. Gotta give the vest some credit for learning his lesson against Florida, as he's tried to bring his d-line to that level.

Bottom line, you run the table in that conference, you are the best team in the nation. No questions asked. There hasn't been a national champion, perhaps ever, that teams COULDN'T beat. But someone's gotta do it. Hypotheticals don't count.

You don't have to be impressed with Oregon, but they didn't lose regular season game, which puts them in the position they were in last night. They had a pro Oregon crowd out in the desert and still didn't get er done. As Lead said, you run the table in the SEC, you are a pretty darn good team. Considering they were losing big to Bama (preseason number 1) on Bama's home field, and that team showed its moxy by coming back and winning. I don't necessarily like Auburn but they certainly have my respect for going 14-0.
"It's all about winning for me, and I think the Cavs are committed to doing that," he said. "But at the same time I've given myself options to this point, and like I said before, me and my team, we have a game plan that we're going to execute, and we'll see what we get."

And Peeker, you are an idiot about Newton; but I'll see yah in the big league forum on that.

And CDT, better to be the Lord's instrument than the Lord of the Toolsheds.

The SEC has the Big Ten's power and the Pac 10's speed with the NFL's fanbases and resources. Ehrone else plays for 2nd ehry year.

I understand the money situation with Newton and his pappy. How much do you think Pryor gets to be at tOSU?

Diatribe by me, I find it hilarious all of the tOSU honks out and up in arms about the suspensions handed out, seems to me there's way more there than the NCAA is letting on and that if the issue is pressed, more info. will come out. I actually hope the Bucks start out 5-0 and they give it back to Pryor and Nebraska rolls them, but that's me. :hide:

My point was that given what Auburn accomplished on the field and it was impressive. I find it amazing that Newton, despite all of the crud out there about him and his dad, etc... was able to play at a very high level throughout the whole process.

Why do you care so much about the SEC? Who gives a shit? They serve a purpose: the NFL needs D-Linemen and the fast food industry needs workers.

But why all the vitriol against the league? Auburn was clearly better. I don't really know how it was tied at the end.

You seriously think Pryor made six figures at tOSU? There's a line between 'everybody cheats' and 'the BCS Championship Bowl presented by the New York Yankees'. That's why USC spent this bowl season at home and why everyone and their grandmother knows this year's BCS title will be held by Vacated within the next five years. Skirt the edges here and there, sure, but don't get too cocky. The NCAA really is watching.

Madre, I think Pryor has been paid handsomely for his time in Cbus, maybe not 200 large, but it's been a good amount plus some other perks (cars, food, etc.....). I said it in an earlier post but I think there's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more things that TPizzy and others have gotten away with but haven't been disclosed yet. But that's just my opinion and probably a short-sighted one by me, but so be it. To think tOSU or other teams haven't been bending/stretching/breaking the NCAA rules is ludicrous.

So, when the NC is vacated in a few years, who steps in and is crowned, an undefeated TCU, or a 1 loss Oregon?

Or does that mean all of the teams Auburn beat get wins and Oregon would be undefeated too?

The idea that Auburn's title will be vacated "in a few years" seems to be the conventional wisdom in recent weeks. And maybe "the NCAA really is watching" is a true statement.

But watching and acting are two different things. Does anyone really think the NCAA feels that college football's best interests (and their own) would be served by conducting a thorough investigation of Auburn athletics, the Newtons and the possibility that Cam got $250,000 to play there.....and if found guilty, then giving them the death penalty (if that wouldn't be a death penalty offense, what would?) and vacating the national title, stripping the Heisman, etc.

That might well start a backlash of finger-pointing that would require similar scrutiny of the whole SEC, among other schools. Anyone think the NCAA wants to go there? I don't.

I thought the same, and then the top headline on ESPN Insider NFL page is Rumors: How about Cam Newton for Titans?.
How does ESPN manage to be so consistently retarded?

The difference here was unmentioned in the video, or anything else I've seen. The bare hand can touch the ground, presumably, including the wrist. However, in the Sugar Bowl, the player's wrist of the hand carrying the ball was down. Therefore, the ball is down. We see players stumble sometimes pivoting out of a catch and they use their bare hand to regain their balance and that's allowed. That's exactly what I think happened here.

Now, if the ankle was down, then the runner is down by contact.

That's the way I interpret it anyway.

I think this is too far gone for the NCAA to simply wash their hands of the affair. When a sizable chunk of your fanbase is already convinced Cam got paid, walking away is no longer an option. You'd basically give an open door to future Newtons to auction themselves off to the highest bidder, just as long as Dad's there to cover for them. And, sure, Auburn can finger-point, but unless there's as much glaring evidence as there was in this case it won't be going anywhere. The rest of the conference knows well enough to keep their traps shut.

per deadspin that seems to be the case.

of course, one is to remember that big ten refs. did the game and their reputation throughout it wasn't exactly good judging by the reactions on twitter by nat'l guys.

but to be fair with them, I suppose it would be difficult to see and make that call under certain conditions. But, it just seems to be me, like one of those plays that would be reversed do to it seeming way to close to call.

I thought the game was well-officiated and I think it's irrelevant what conferences the referees come from.

People just need something to bitch about. Nothing egregious about the call and IMO, it was inconclusive enough to go with the ruling on the field.

Shut up, JB. You have no idea what you're talking about.

If Chip Kelly wasn't a complete idiot......

And save your shitmouthed hate on Pryor. It only shows what a know nothing hater you are.

I'm not convinced by any means that the Buckeyes couldn't do in the Ducks similar to how they did in 2010 Rose Bowl. Auburn is different, IMO Lead explained why quite well. They really do put the pressure on the opposing OL and QB's, the SEC that is.

Also hard to say the SEC isn't hands down better than any other conference. 5 straight NC's with 4 different teams winning it all. Until another conference wins an NC there really is nothing to talk about on the subject, and Ric Flair said it best.

Meanwhile, in Alabama... people are rushing to stores to get the paraphernalia, which may not get to stores before the title is vacated due to road conditions....

And yes, that is where Ronnie Duncan ended up.

Yep; * IF * the DL played like they did vs R-Kansas and not Wisky. The key to making Kelly's gimmics look like what they are is good, disciplined D Line penetration and gap integrity. Nail 'em in the backfield before they get all that hocus pocus bush leage bull crap going. If you sit back on heels, they will confuse you and run by you.

At the end of the day, they have quaterbacks who are Oklahoma circa 1986.

I do love his sideline play cards, though.

Auburn? This season Auburn was just a much better version of tOSU AFAIK. Kind of like a Symon burger compared to an Angus delux.

Well said.

The DL is the key unit in college football right now, you put a good unit on the field, coach em up right and let em loose you'll be just fine.
