You don't have to be impressed with Oregon, but they didn't lose regular season game, which puts them in the position they were in last night. They had a pro Oregon crowd out in the desert and still didn't get er done. As Lead said, you run the table in the SEC, you are a pretty darn good team. Considering they were losing big to Bama (preseason number 1) on Bama's home field, and that team showed its moxy by coming back and winning. I don't necessarily like Auburn but they certainly have my respect for going 14-0.

My point was that given what Auburn accomplished on the field and it was impressive. I find it amazing that Newton, despite all of the crud out there about him and his dad, etc... was able to play at a very high level throughout the whole process.

But that's just my opinion and probably a short-sighted one by me, but so be it. To think tOSU or other teams haven't been bending/stretching/breaking the NCAA rules is ludicrous.

Does anyone really think the NCAA feels that college football's best interests (and their own) would be served by conducting a thorough investigation of Auburn athletics, the Newtons and the possibility that Cam got $250,000 to play there.....and if found guilty, then giving them the death penalty (if that wouldn't be a death penalty offense, what would?) and vacating the national title, stripping the Heisman, etc.

That might well start a backlash of finger-pointing that would require similar scrutiny of the whole SEC, among other schools. Anyone think the NCAA wants to go there? I don't.

The difference here was unmentioned in the video, or anything else I've seen. The bare hand can touch the ground, presumably, including the wrist. However, in the Sugar Bowl, the player's wrist of the hand carrying the ball was down. Therefore, the ball is down. We see players stumble sometimes pivoting out of a catch and they use their bare hand to regain their balance and that's allowed. That's exactly what I think happened here.

Now, if the ankle was down, then the runner is down by contact.

I think this is too far gone for the NCAA to simply wash their hands of the affair. When a sizable chunk of your fanbase is already convinced Cam got paid, walking away is no longer an option. You'd basically give an open door to future Newtons to auction themselves off to the highest bidder, just as long as Dad's there to cover for them. And, sure, Auburn can finger-point, but unless there's as much glaring evidence as there was in this case it won't be going anywhere. The rest of the conference knows well enough to keep their traps shut.

I'm not convinced by any means that the Buckeyes couldn't do in the Ducks similar to how they did in 2010 Rose Bowl. Auburn is different, IMO Lead explained why quite well. They really do put the pressure on the opposing OL and QB's, the SEC that is.

Also hard to say the SEC isn't hands down better than any other conference. 5 straight NC's with 4 different teams winning it all. Until another conference wins an NC there really is nothing to talk about on the subject, and Ric Flair said it best.
