Might be the worst division names I have ever heard of.

Conference Champions win the Stagg-Paterno Championship Trophy? Gross. Does this mean Mount Union should be watched out for?

MVP of Big "10" Championship Game - Grange-Griffin Trophy.

They could have come up with something more stupid...but it would have taken a blue-ribbon panel, a bipartisan commission, AND a congressional investigation to do it.

Hard to imagine they could screw up the entire conference. From the awful names to the awful divisions, the entire thing is like a monkey copulating with a door knob.

That... is going to take some getting used to.

Who did they run this by who thought it sounded good? Maverick Carter? I haven't seen a positive reaction to it yet.

Can they get them worse? They could go with 'A' & 'B' and be 1000 times better.

Nice to see JoePa's name on the COY trophy. I guess all those years of beating up on Army and Temple paid off.

Fun fact: Barry Alvarez has won as many Big 10 titles as JoePa.

It's so easy. If they don't want directional names, they should go with the Hayes and Schembechler divisions. So what if it's "exclusionary". Fuck, if Iowa doesn't want to be excluded they should hire a legendary coach who is the face of the conference for a few decades.

Some of the early talk had them picking the names from among the great Big Ten players of yesteryear. I would have been okay with Grange and Butkus if they hadn't coincidentally gone to the same school. Any way you do that, I guess somebody's going to be unhappy....but that beats everybody being unhappy.

Thank God they're changing this. What a horrific miscalculation.

Me personally, I would love to see em go to the Black & Blue. Simple, and it sends a message about midwestern football. Would help with the identity of the conference.

And it's official official. http://espn.go.com/college-football/sto ... e-schedule

I also like the scheduling guidelines- no FCS teams, and at least one major (hopefully interpreted as Group of Five) FBS conference opponent per year.

This means, for OSU, most likely 2 "gimme" games every year against the MAC/Sun Belt/Conference USA, with an alternating home/away with a major opponent to coincide the home games with the years that they only have 4 home B1G games. OSU needs 7 home games per year to make the budget work, I'd think.

Or, you know, east & west.

This is so much better now, although not sure the west would win the MAC in any given year anymore.
