Is it time to start separate leagues in ohio hs ball?

Unread postby Triple-S » Sat Dec 04, 2010 6:44 pm

In all seriousness, I've noticed that 5 out of the 6 titles won so far today were by Catholic/Private schools.

I may add, that private schools by far have more of an advantage in getting kids to come play ball for them as they are able to recruit their kids, where as Joe Public School, IF they are indeed playing by the rules, gets stuck with whatever they have.

Now, before, some Iggy/Ed's grads flips out, let me point two things. A.) Yes, I do have a slight bias, but I also have seen it up close, If Ed's is able to win X-amout of wrestling titles in a row, and not have a single public school even sniff the title for the same amount of years, something is up. B.) Other states have this as a setup, Illinois being the obvious example.

So, why not have a Private and a Public School state title? It seems only fair at this point. And then following that, you could play one more game between the two and see who would win in.

This would assume that public HS don't recruit. I know for a fact one NEO school did, it is more complicated, but my guess it is being done more than you might suspect.

It has become more prevalent within the past 10 years in the public schools. And I'm sure Teddy Ginn isnt getting lucky having all those athletes living in the same neighborhood year after year.
Galley Boys are slop on top of a so-so burger and a bun you coulde get from a Covneninet food mart generic pack. They the Antoine Joubert of burgers; soft, sloppy, oozing grease and cheap sauce and extremely overrated by a biased fan base. Proof that if you throw enough cheap sauce shit on a burger you still can't overcome the lame burger. -JB

Not to mention open enrollment in the public schools which is getting pretty prevalent as well.

Even before open enrollment, in Toledo where I grew up Start High School used to be really sweet in baseball year after year. It was a Toledo Public School and they were the only Toledo school that offered Russian... amazing the interest the city's best baseball players had in Russian, who knew.

This all coming from a public school kid who's school now plays in a league with at least 5 private schools.

Wadsworth didn't win state last year because a bunch of great wrestlers were all born in Wadsworth 17 years ago.

I remember my very first article writing for Thor Tolo's Sportscomm about 100 years ago was on this very topic.

Meaning, it's been like this for about 100 years.

It would be great to separate the publics from the privates for the playoffs. That way, you could water down all the championships and tell Glenville when it wins it all that it didn't beat the best teams out there.

This QB from Huber Hts that the Buckeyes are getting is a nice playa.

This has been a helluva game.

Eds down 1, 2:30 to go. Personal foul on the Eds PAT was a killer. Jesus.

Thinking back about the topic, I remember working at Canton Timken High, and them talking about disbanding the football team because all of the good players wind up at McKinley. While watching Akron Buchtel on DVR, i wondered if it's the same situation there. Does Glenville draw the best players within the CPS system?

Then there are the cases like Massillon hiring a new staff member to the school board who's son just happened to be the star quarterback for Orrville. And similar stories from Massillon Perry fans.

Then there are schools with "open enrollment".

I think there is a problem with divisions, when back in the 90's a Youngstown Cardinal Mooney blows out my alma mater (Doylestown) in a Division 4 playoff game, and the next year they're in Division 2. How do you place a program that hand picks many of it's players, in a low division based on how many people (pay to) attend that school?

Here's the problem SSS. If you are the public school champs, you know you aren't the real champs. Because you dodged, pussed out, and to be the Man you've got to beat the Man. Why would Hilliard and Colerain want that taint on their success?

IMO, in D 1 the big publics can go toe to toe with the Catholics.

HHW beat St X.

If their WR runs a straight route on that lst flag pattern or they can stand prosperity or tackle some skinny 170 irish kid, they win state. But they didn't. Cause Ed's sacked up big, big time and did what they had to do. They EARNED that shit. And if you can't root for a kid like Kevin Burke, you can't appreciate HS football. Compare him to Miller and tell me it was an unfair advantage. Miller is a better QB than Pryor BTW. I don't mean potentially. I mean right now. Not as big a body, but a better FB player.

BTW - Spin made hammer meet nail points on how publics do the same in some markets. Jesse Scott anyone?

Now where I do call BS is in the lower divisions. Y-town Ursuline is at the heart of about a what, 150,000 to 200,000 population market? For them to be able to send that bunch of 300 pound all start team monsters up against a bunch of 170 pound farm boys is a complete joke. So what you could do is say that if you are a parochial school and have one player getting any grant-in-aid discount off tuition, you play D 1. Period.

Not sure how that works for the Steubenville catholic Centrals of canton central Catholics or Parma paduas that are just nice smaller catholic schools that rarely challenge for anything of significance and they might have to go be D 1 cannon fodder, but that might be one solution.

BTW, assillion Washington has taken far more players from Lake than Aquinas or CCC for football reasons.

??

I didn't? Thought I did.

Amazing freaking sack up job by Ed's in the clutch. And Kevin Burke is one hell of a never say die leader.

Congrads.

Having said that, HHW shat the bed in qtr 4. Punked.

Kind of, when that WR got behind the DB in the end I was like OMG. Don't even get me started on the PAT thing.

But to be fair in the game of if and buts, if Ed's avoids those PF calls on a 3rd and 4th early in the game I am not sure it would have been as much of a game as it was.

Or is the refs don't extend Ed's 1st qtr drives, HHW is running away with it. Then again, Ed's is a bunch of late hit cheap shot dirty players. Reflects the program. Is that what you expect from me? (inlove)

Dude, it was just a great game by two very talented teams. Point of the thread is it ain't broke. HHW lost a close ass game. Not because they are public, but because they didn't make the plays and Ed's did. Why would HHW want some chump / fake trophey instead?

Many if not most HS pundits had our region as the toughest in the USofA, so JB you should enjoy this part.

BTW - No way I'm hating on Ed's. They just HS kids. Like we talked at TG beyond busting balls; If it can't be us, may as well be you. Like your idiot little brother finally making something of himself.
