According to Tom Withers of the AP. Tait's going to sit out the rest of 2010 due to a heart problem.

It was going to be painful listening to Cavs basketball anyway, but now, could be even worse.

Gus Johnson is looking for a job, he just got fired by the Knicks... but I doubt even he could get excited for the Cavs this year.
In the end, we're all "only for a limited time," you guys.

That's a shame. This was supposed to be his last year, no?

Not only is this team going to be unwatchable, they're going to be unlistenable too.

Other than name, what does this team have in common with the past? :loadof:
What do you mean Akron isn't in the same market as Cleveland? We're close enough to be fucked by it's sports curse.

I've been listening to Joe since the Miracle of Richfield days. Even though i was very young, i can remember how much i enjoyed listening to him. On a personal level, this is more of a loss than losing LeBron.

Agreed. Tait's the best in the business. I was an undergrad in the broadcasting program at Ohio U. when he was announcing Bobcat games, and it was plainly evident that he would eventually hit the big time. He was that good, even back then. Since those days, I've personally chatted with him a few times--at least once that I remember at length--and there's not a more competent, professional guy in the game. Here's hoping he responds well to treatment and comes back for at least a brief encore before he hangs up the golden mike for good.

Can't see him coming back. He's said in past interviews his biggest regret was not losing weight - because he knows he could. and I'm sure he knows his career is a big reason he never did. Going back on the road could literally kill the guy.

The greatest.

Gus Johnson and his phoney baloney shtick are awful, no matter what Simmons says over and over.

Dude is a bad, bad play by play guy. At least in the NFL; I don't watch a ton of March Madness, so maybe he isn't so transparently phoney and late on all of his calls for that.

Gus Johnson doing College basketball is rather good.

Him doing pro football? not so much.

I actually think he'd be better suited doing college sports all around. I think that's where his schtick is best.

Worst case scenario would be that Gilbert finally gets his big name free agent in the form of Johnson, Fred Mac moves permanently to the radio side and Johnson is teamed up with AC. OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of those voices that become so engrained that I sometimes think with Joe Tait's voice. Will be missed tremendously this season.

Pullin for Joe to make it back soon.

Do the right thing and give the jog to Reghi. While I was never his biggest fan he was respectable at calling the games, has the history, has solid basketball IQ and last but not least gets him off of sports talk radio.

Win win.

^I was negative on the idea from the start till I saw, "gets him off of sports talk radio."

We're all huge Tait fans--and this isn't really realistic--but I'd be giddy if Gus Johnson came to Cleveland's booth, to the point of only listening to games on the radio.

At least someone not from Cleveland could get overly excited watching the Cavs (I'm just assuming he's not from NE Ohio).
mmm, this is, a tasty burger!

Joe is back in the hospital. He's in the ICU at the Clinic after falling ill with chest pains and dizziness on Sunday. He might have a blood clot in his leg.
