This sounds worse than it's meant, but LeBron robbed Joe of five or six years of retirement. He could have been doing Mount Union football games 10 Saturdays a year and spending the rest of his time working on model trains.
Joe was set to hang up the headset before Dan Gilbert even bought the team. But Gordon Gund convinced him to stick around for the LBJ renaissance. He got the well-deserved chance to call Finals games for the only time in his career, but in the end, he's probably hung around in the broadcast booth for a few years too long.
I hope his career ends on his terms in April, not in October due to a chest infection.
