Saturday: Diaz vs. Noons II

Unread postby XUDawg » Mon Oct 04, 2010 7:02 pm

If you don't have Showtime, Nick Diaz is worth the price alone. The softcore 2 am porn is just a throw-in. He has gained a little too much infamy in his career, for his antics, taking away from how seriously he takes his training and his career as a mixed martial artist. Noons is his only loss in his last 13 fights. The fight was stopped due to cuts. But Diaz has since had plastic surgery to repair scar tissue that caused him to cut too easily. Noons is going to have to survive this time. And he won't.

If you've never seen Diaz, watch him fight. Watch him call the guy he's fighting every name in the book while they're fighting. Not to embarass him, but to goad him into doing what Diaz wants him to do. Watch him show the orthodoxed boxer Noons how MMA boxing works. Watch him show Noons what a gogoplata is. Then watch him shake Noons's hand after choking him out.

The guy is one in a million. He's a contradiction. He's a pot-smoking "thug" from Stockton, CA that otherwise treats his body like a temple. He competes in triathlons. He's in the gym everyday. He once contined fighting an opponent after the fight when they met in the hospital. He's a brutal cagefighter, who wishes people considered MMA more for its focus on technical martial arts, and less for its brutality. When asked why he didn't show more respect to his opponents, he said "We fight in a cage, asshole."

Diaz. Saturday. Is he the best? Probably not. But in the past three years, he's fought at 155, 160, 170, and 185. He will fight anybody at any weight class. And his skill and technique is top-notch. For those of you who maybe UFC watchers, but not necessarily MMA fans, give this fight a chance.

Favorite Diazisms (way better than Ricky Henderson):
"Leave the women and children at home...Back in the day, a Ninja didn’t have his girlfriend sitting in the tree waiting to kill shit.”."

“I’m trying to fight (Hayato) Sakurai, I’m trying to fight K.J. Noons, I’m trying to fight Anderson Silva, I’m trying to fight everybody. I’m trying to fight Georges (expletive) St. (expletive) Pierre. I’m trying to fight … I didn’t mean to call Georges a (expletive), but I ain’t got no problem getting there and fighting the best people in the world. Georges is a nice guy. I’m trying to fight Jon Fitch, I’m trying to fight Silva, I’m trying to fight K.J. Noons, I’m trying to fight everybody. I’m trying to fight Takanori Gomi, Sakurai, I’m trying to (expletive) everybody up. (Expletive) this (expletive). This is (expletive) gangster (expletive) warfare. I don’t give a (expletive). You know what I mean?”

“If people can’t handle watching me or they handle the intensity of my life or they can’t handle me cussing saying fuck this and fuck, then you know, I think people really need to become a little more mature, kinda grow up a little bit…”

"so Nick, would you agree your marijuana smoking has got in the way of your fight career?"
Nick: "Actually, on the contrary, my fight career has gotten in the way of my marijuana smoking."

Watch. It'll be worth it.

What a fight. Nick outboxes the pro boxer, and breaks his jaw. Thank you, Nick. Didn't expect a five round MMA version of boxing, but it was great.
