So is Kristen Wiig the worst cast member in SNL history?

literally blows my mind the amount of unfunny sketches that star her there are.

Every skit seems to be her playing the same tired drawn out characters, just simply making funny facial expressions.

and I'm tired of the whole standby "Well say whatever you want, but she's really hot". Thats like telling me "Well say whatever you want, but man, Derek Anderson can sure cook a steak!". So I ask you guys, having not really seen fully the old school days of SNL, is Wiig one of the most unfunny members in the history?

I know I'm in the minority, but I think the current cast is great. I think Hader is going to end up being one of my favorite all time cast members. That guy absolutely slays me. I think this cast will, in retrospect, be looked upon very favorably.

Every week there are as many, probably more, crappy sketches than good sketches. So everyone thinks the show has gone downhill. But it has ALWAYS been like that. It's just that, when people look back, they only remember the funny ones.

And, to answer your question, I think Wiig is really funny. One of the better female members they've had.

I guess I can understand you not liking her as much, but she is NOT the worst. She is nowhere near the list of "worst" cast members.

I really wish my criticism was better than "she's just not funny" in regards to her brand of sketches/comedy. So I'm going to try really hard on this.

I will use a non-snl like example in this, in "Dumb and Dumber", where the two are with a guy about to whack them is in the "shaggin' wagon", and Carey turns over to him and goes "Do you want to know what the most annoying sound in the world is?", and then proceeds to make said annoying sound. It's funny because, it's a one off thing, and just illustrates how immature and stupid Carey's character is.

Wiig's characters are based on them being simply annoying and obnoxious. I believe the latter can work quite well on occasion when it comes to comedy, see Farley as the motivational speaker. But I've never known of a particular annoying character to go over well in regards to being a successful and memorable skit.

Come on man. Target Lady is the best character ever invented and Kristen Wiig is totally hot.

I just didn't want to make it sound overly-simplified, but that is in fact the truth.

And very much true on the front with hot =/= not funny, same goes with Chelsea Handler and Sarah Silverman who generally try really hard to get shock value laughs and just come off as trying way to hard to be funny,

Don't get me wrong, shock value when used in the right context can be hilarious, Sam Kinision had it down to an art, just is pathetic sounding if you don't know how to do it.

back to the subject at hand though, having to watch the same basis for a character in every sketch is very will Ferrell-esque. Except...Will Ferrell actually at the very least can be amusing and funny.

That's because comedy arises from pain, rejection and loneliness. None of which hot women feel on a regular basis.

There's a reason so many comics are black guys, Jewish guys, fat guys, guys from broken homes, etc.

Also, "What Up With That?" has grown on me a lot.

Yeah, I'm not sure where all of the "Kristen Wig is hot" is conming from. Don't get me wrong. She looks just fine. She has nothing to be ashamed of.* But I've never looked at her and thought she was super hot or anything.

I like "What up wit dat?" too. All of the background noise is good. I like that they always have real celebrities willing to come in just to sit around for the sketch. (Ernest Borgnine is a home run). Jason Sudeikis (sp?) doing the running man in warm ups and an afro never gets old. Lindsey Buckingham...

A lot to like about it.

Brilliant but the skits went on too long very often. I see it, I get it, I laughed. Move on. Not unusual for SNL though, esp in the Mike Myers era.
