Up-Scale Restaurants, NE Ohio

It's not a special day or anything, but I'd like to take my girl out to a nicer dinner Friday night.

My buddy's girlfriend claims to be a restaurant expert (she's not all together), and recommended freaking Apple Bees. Nothing against Bees, but it's not what I'm looking for here.

The last dinner we went to was Bravo--I'm looking for something very classy, up-scale, not terribly pricy (gotta find a happy medium), somewhere between Canton and maybe a little north of Kent. Somewhere within 35-40 minutes of Kent is ideal.

Steakhouse, Italian, anything but seafood.

Any help, recommendations?

Steak:Red the Steakhouse in Beachwood
Italian:Etna or Michaelangelos in Little Italy, Osteria Downtown
American Contemporary:Downtown 140 in Hudson, Three Birds in Ohio City, Table 45 Downtown

Maggiano's in Beachwood. Make a reservation. It's a chain, but it blows Olive Garden off the map. See if they're running the 2 for $12.95 special. You get a meal to eat there and one packaged up to take with you. Best Italian place I've ever had, outside of some local pizza places.

I'm sure Pier W in Lakewood will be suggested. I'm not big on seafood, so I've never been there.

From people I trust, the steakhouse to visit in Akron is the Diamond Grille. Ken Stewart's is more well known, but the Diamond packs the house and has a very loyal customer base. Last I heard, though, they take cash only.

I like that. It means it is shady.

BTW - Npt sure how "upscale" Crave is, but it is fun. Great place to take a date (and pump martinis into her. j/k/ ) .
