DTS-HD Master Audio

Unread postby Bill the Butcher » Thu Aug 26, 2010 12:25 am

Any HD audio nerds out there that can help me out?

Trying to play blu-ray movies on Sony Bravia HDTV via laptop via HDMI.

Video shows, but cannot hear audio.

I have tried it on a Hitachi HDTV and the audio works...

Been searching around the Settings of both the Bravia and laptop; nothing.

Thanks in advance.

Exact same disc, exact same laptop? Is your laptop doing the decoding of the DTS audio or the TV?
I don't need to be patient, they're going to be shit forever.

Same disc. Same laptop.

Not sure what is doing the decoding.

Another difference would be the Hitachi (the TV where the audio worked) is hooked up to a sound system and audio NOT coming out of the TV speakers. The Bravia, however, has no sound system hooked up, so the audio has no other choice but to come out of the TV speakers.

Ok. Narrowing it down. What makes up the "sound system"? I'll bet there is some type of receiver/tuner? How new is it? That box is what decodes the DTS data stream and sends the signal through to the speakers. Your laptop won't decode the DTS audio without the proper sound card and codecs.

It's a RCA DVD player + surround sound speakers. It's pretty new, within a couple years.

So, I'm assuming my Bravia needs a set up just like the RCA/Hitachi for it to play DTS-HD Master Audio. OR update my laptop? How do I know I have the proper sound card and codecs?
