I'd rather they suck to high heaven than do what I fear they'll do with a core of Mo, Jamo and Hickson, who are three capable but not star-level players: Win 40-ish games and get LBJ's pimp hand in a 1 vs. 8 first-round matchup.

That is the absolute worst-case scenario. Seventeen wins and a crapload of ping-pong balls in the '11 draft lottery would be paradise compared to the direction I fear the Cavs are headed with the current roster.

They really need to get rid of Jamo and Mo. Badly.

Cavs will finish behind Miami, Orlando, Boston, Atlanta, Chicago, Milwaukee, and Charlotte (barring injuries to the latter group) for sure. That would put them at 8. But I would expect at least one other team to finish ahead of them, as well.

Past few years the Cavs averaged like 40 games on national tv each season. Meaning LFJ's popularity has dropped so much that even when coupling him with Wade, tv execs still feel he's less of a draw than in the past.

We've also likely seen the last of the Cavs on Fan Night on NBATV, which seemed like a weekly occurence until now.

Trying to get my buddy into a bet over the season win total for the Cavs. I say they top out at 30, with my specific prediction being 27 wins. He says they will win 43 games. So I gave him 31+ and I get 30 and under.

But a season-long bet should be interesting. I didn't want to just bet straight cash -- boring! Let's do something that the other person would hate to do.

He is a staunch Republican. I tend to vote Democrat but don't wholly support them as he does Repubs. So I told him loser votes for the other guy's candidate for Congress in the next election after the season. He didn't want to go for that. I said how about if I win he can't send any political email propaganda for a month. He said that would be too hard. I said how about if he wins I give him $50, but if I win he donates $50 to Kucinich, just so his name shows up on a search as a donator. He wouldn't go for that.

Finally I said how about I mow your lawn if you win, you wash my car (by hand -- no automatic car wash) if I win. We might have something there.

James' new team, the Miami Heat, are scheduled for 29 national TV games -- including James first game in Cleveland since leaving in free agency. As The Plain Dealer reported last week, it will be Dec. 2 at The Q.

With NBA TV's fan night voting, the Heat will likely hit the maximum number of national games at 34 as the Cavs did last season.

My bad. I recalled counting 40 games that I was able to watch without LeaguePass last year. Now I remember that I would have included 2 NY games and 4 NJ games in my count, as those games are on local tv where I live. Good catch.
