You have a CCW? I personally do not and would like to get certified for same. Maybe Uncle Hulka would do a TCF group class for the CCW?

We put JB's pic on the targets and I bet accuracy improves.

I will say that after a few years here and with my posting tendencies, I'm a bit leery of standing on the range with a group from TCF. Especially if your friends are TitoFrancona and DuaneKuiper. And if you're good buddies with Bob Fergus I'm busy that weekend.

That's an advanced course. No novice should be expected to be able to hit a miniature target right off the bat.

Been looking to get my CCW for awhile, but have a hard time dedicating 10-12 hours over one or two days (usually weekends) to take the class.

Would you be willing to shorter classes over a longer timeframe? Maybe 2-3 hours per week over the course of 3-4 weeks.

Finally pointed in the right direction by Erie. I might as well spam this here...

As of this moment I do not own a gun. I have never even handled a gun, but my mother's side of the family are avid hunters and gun owners, my brother owns a gun, and my father had a couple pistols.

The reason for the gun is that I am going to soon be moving and most likely it will be into Cleveland or an inner-ring burb. Before anyone goes high and mighty on me, I lived most my life in Cleveland, South Hills neighborhood, before moving to Middleburg Heights. Our house in Cleveland was broken into 3 times, once they actually got in and stole some items, the other two just broken glass before they heard the burglar alarm, my dad's profession... Add that in our contracting business I am always running down to CWRU, and while Universitry Circle is nice, it isn't far from some blighted areas. Shit even in Middleburg Heights I had my window on my car smashed, and the tailgate of my old truck stolen out of my driveway, nothing I would need a gun for, but the police blotter was filled with crimes of a higher degree.

Long story longer I am looking for a pistol, something good for a novice to become familiar. This will sound childish, but I love the look of the Walther handguns of James Bond fame, and the local BT Shooting Supplies store has a deal on the .38 and .22 pistols. Get both for around $650 if I remember correctly. The CCW training would be shortly after purchase.

btw if anyone out there is a facilities manager for any type of commercial business, I need to talk to you about our interior finishing services!!!

I would possibly be able to get my brother and one other person involved, of course I need to buy my "gat" first...

Thanks to all of you who have responded. Here are a few things to consider---------

As far as CHC (Concealed Handgun Permit Classes), A private class is ABSOLUTELY no problem. However, to adhere to the state statutes it must consist of:

10 hours of classroom-That can be in one 10-hour day or 2-5 hour days...Believe me, it will go painlessly. It can be done at ANY location of your choosing or at my training classroom downtown Cleveland E25/Payne.

2-hours on the range..........The range I use is Gray's Armory, 1234 Bolivar Ave., by 14th/Prospect. Keep in mind that Concealed Carry Permit Classes are NOT Firearm training classes but actually Firearm SAFETY classes. Beginning or Intermediate Tactical Pistolcraft classes is a separate class which I can also do.........

Cost for the Concealed Carry Course would be based on students:
3 or 4 students......................$150/each
5-7 students.........................$125/each
8 or more..............................$100/each

WOW.......I have never heard that take before

However:

The state of Ohio made an inept attempt at placating the NRA and Ohioans For Concealed Carry (Two big state lobbies)by enacting this feeble Concealed Carry Law. But both those organizations will tell you, it's better than nothing.

1. If you want to carry a concealed gun w/o a permit, it's illegal. Possibly defendable, but illegal.

2. If you want to abide by the law, obtain a permit, but remember, it's still somewhat prohibited and a bit invasive. Invasive because when you obtain a permit, it "red flags" your driver's license AND any vehicle plates listed to you.

I would be interested in your LEO's take on why they think it's a form of gun control......

From what I recall dem, his thinking was somewhat along the lines of you don't need CC to take a gun everywhere but once you have CC you are bound to certain restrictions and made more accountable.

For IE, IIRC he claims if you are CC and driving and get pulled over YOU ARE REQUIRED to notify the LEO that you are carrying (even though LEO can find this out before he gets out of car) and if you don't you can be charged with a felony. Any truth to that? As opposed to not being CC and being able to have a gun in your car, if you get pulled over you do not have to notify the LEO of that fact. Thoughts?

Your friend is CORRECT in saying that a CC permit holder MUST immediately notify any LEO that stops him as a result of a Law Enforcement function that he IS a permit holder and has his firearm on his person and/or in the car. However, they have reduced the classification for this infraction to a Minor Misdemeanor.

Yes, cops should know if they stop a vehicle, the REGISTERED OWNER is a CC holder. However, you may lend your car to a friend or relative. They must be educated what to do if stopped by cops.

But it is ILLEGAL to carry a loaded gun in your car without a CC permit. PERIOD!
The ORC included "Affirmative Defenses" to allow people charged with CCW a defense in court. BUT, in order to present the defense, you must first be ARRESTED. Who wants to go through that?

A loaded gun, or either loaded or not loaded? I travel with my gun in my car 5-6 times, never loaded, what can happen to me then?

The law says you may transport an UNLOADED in a closed box or container (which can be locked) and MUST be kept as far away from the driver's compartment as physically possible (the original intent of the law was for the gun to be kept in a locked trunk, but nowadays with SUV/Mini-Vans that is problematic) . Ammo/magazines, etc must also be kept separate from the firearm and also in a closed container.

You can carry the UNLOADED firearm (in the open) on the front seat IF it's been field stripped OR if rifle/shotgun, action opened, bolt removed i.e. an "Easy Rider" rifle rack in pick-up.

1. Can you teach the class that can get me a carry permit from Florida?

2. Can I get a permit for Ohio thru you with the permit I have for PA?

Those should prolly be reversed but you get it.

I'm interested in getting one from Ohio as an out of stater. I'm pretty sure this can be done

There is a class that can be taught, in PA, that will qualify you for a FL license even if you live out of state

IOW...I'm interested in getting seperate license for each state

FL's can get you reciprical w/32 other states

I'm going to try and find the class that I saw offered and get back to you. It may be something else you'd be interested in offering for biz

The one I saw was offered in Philly and C-Town is like 7 hrs closer for me is why I ask
