Years later it would be the choice that set him up for life, buying him a legacy, making him Cal Ripken Jr., a trademark for anything good in baseball.
But what if, like LeBron, he had left? What if he fled Baltimore the way James forsook Cleveland?
The thing is, he never would. He was always destined to be Maryland’s Cal Ripken. And doing so made him bigger than hoisting three Yankees World Series trophies possibly could. When he broke the sport’s consecutive games played record, he did so at home.
It was a moment even George Steinbrenner could never have bought.

I've come to spread my idiocy far and wide on these here boards, but even if there were no boards I would visit daily for the articles. They're what brought me here in the first place.
Peek, I love your stuff too. One of my favs, and I'm not just kissing ass either. Because, let's face it, why would anyone kiss your ass?
In other words, don't sell yourself short Peek...you're a tremendous slouch.

We could all chip in and cover the cost of self-publishing it. You could sell it in the online store, and maybe we could cut a deal with some local bookstores to carry it.
Maybe we'd have to wait until the anger dies down some more, but when everyone around the area calms down and wants to look back on the evolution of the LBJ era in Cleveland, it would make for a good keepsake.

It really was that hard to write. I had to pick it and put it down at least four separate times, then re-read it three times. I'm used to banging out columns in 1-2 hours with no breaks. This was a lot different.
