Just for eoy...

http://www.news-herald.com/articles/2010/06/29/sports/nh2711077.txt

Bob Finnan of News-Herald

Many wonder who is going to play center on this team. They might end up playing either J.J. Hickson or Anderson Varejao at that spot. Neither is a legitimate option.

The Cavs would like to sign center Sasha Kahn, the former Kansas big man who has been playing for CSKA Moscow the last two years.

"Two years ago our scouts were saying, ‘Sasha Kahn, Sasha Kahn,' " Grant said. "I'm like, ‘Are you sure?' I'm watching him and he can't really do some things. Now, he's one of the best centers in Europe."

FTR: Bo Finnan is a hack

Also, I went back and found the Windy piece on Sasha Motherfucking Kaun, he said "yeah the Cavs might think about bringing him over for depth, maybe"

Hell of an endorsement.

Guys like Scola were always known as pretty much guaranteed NBA players.

Finnan, of course, being the hack that he is would infer that Kaun is an actual starting center option here.

It was only fitting that I posted it. I still think the guy might be a legit 4th big on this team this year. He has to be an improvement over D-Block and is more mobile than Z.... that's something...

Have to start the guessing on what Windy was referring to when he spoke of a S&T with Shaq. Dallas seems too obvious, but for whom?

Feh.

Might be a fourth big.

Feh.

Frankly, on a team w/ JJ, Jamo and Andy if he's your fourth big you're starting Andy or JJ at center and you better hope Scott is running the Show Time offense.

He's Sasha motherfucking kaun, I'd trade him for $2MM in cap space tomorrow if it were possible.

Once Joe resigns it's LBJ or bust for them.

Double S&T for Brendon Haywood? (Obviously we get 3-4 yrs on Haywood, Dallas gets 1 yr of Shaq)

The Boston Celtics may have some competition for Ray Allen.

Word is the Cavaliers and HEAT have both tried to set up early free agent meetings with Ray-Ray. If the Celtics think they can get him back cheap, they may be in for a surprise.

Listening to a very contrite JA Adande run away from the "LeBron runs away from Cleveland" talk and refuses to make any kind of prediction. Says that LeBron has major ties to Cleveland and sentiments that might keep him here.

Sometime today the #Cavs are expected to contact Brendan Haywood. There is a chance of a double sign-and-trade to Dallas with Shaq.

Maybe if Lebron leaves and we pull that off we should figure out how to trade for Butler and Arenas and bring the group back for one more run...

Also, expect the #Cavs to contact forward Al Harrington. OK, that's all the stuff I've been holding based on sources. Discuss.

The Cavs obviously will have interest in Chris Bosh & Amare' Stoudemire, but likely would not get serious unless they re-sign LeBron.

#Cavs also expected to contact shooting guards Ray Allen, John Salmons and Mike Miller at some point on July 1.

Who is Jason Lloyd and how credible is he?

Sources say #Cavs talking to #Hornets, chatter seems to be around Okafor and Collison.

Haven't really read much of him, so I don't know how credible he is.

But I'm certainly down for Collison. Not thrilled about Okafor's contract though. If LeBron comes back, I suppose it's something we can swallow, as we won't be under the cap anytime soon. But if he bolts, and we're left with Okafor...that's ugly.

I don't have a mother ship insider account but hollinger apparently wrote an article comparing Okafor to Tyson Chandler that was pro-Okafor. While he's a bust at his salary level he certainly seems like he'd be a good piece next to Lebron. What did Hollinger have to say?

Rotoworld

Byron Scott's agent, Brian McInerney, said Thursday that Scott has agreed to "essential terms (of a contract), with details to be worked out throughout the night" to coach the Cavaliers next season.
Brian Shaw removed his name from consideration on Wednesday, clearing the way for Scott to take the job. While it's still not a done deal, it does sound like Scott will coach the Cavs next year, with or without LeBron James. Mcinerney said late on Wednesday that Scott was not in negotiations with the Cavs, but that could have been because the team was having trouble reaching him via telephone.

Dallas has no interest in a double S & T for Shaq according to Stein, who is about as in as in gets w/ that franchise and Okur is a fucking bum, he was beyond bad last year.

Chandler at least has had the injury concerns holding him back and played very well while healthy.

Only reason we would talk about Okur is to take that contract off of NO in exchange for real talent.

I was wondering the same thing. Okafor is pedestrian in every sense of the word sans his bank account. Undersized, banged up, mediocre on good days offensively. Collison just went insane in the last 3 months. It's a small sample size, but if he is any bit of the player he showed in April than he's got serious trade value.

The only thing I could imagine in NO's favor would be a salary dump move to try and get active for one of the 2nd tier FA's on the market (Rudy Gay?). Chris Paul sort of laid down the gauntlet a couple weeks back and made it known that if he doesn't see activity he's out the door. With new ownership about to take the reigns, this could be their message to CP3 that they're committed.

Chad Ford still has a pipeline open to Darko and gets all related scoops:

chadfordinsider: Breaking News: Wolves agree to a 4 year, $20 mil deal with Darko Milicic. Link coming shortly ...

Not really a terrible deal if he plays as decent as he did last year (it's always been about motivation w/ Darko, not skill) and strikes me as an attempt to pull Rubio here. As w/ the Gooden deal, salary is pretty much fine, but too many years. Salaries around 5-6MM can always be included in deals and moved though.

Celtics looking to trade Wallace’s contract

Boston Celtics GM Danny Ainge is trying to use Rasheed Wallace’s(notes) contract in trade talks, a move that would allow the Celtics to keep their midlevel exception, league sources said.

Wallace has yet to file retirement papers, so the $6.32 million owed him next season and $6.79 million in 2011-12 would come off a team’s books after Wallace is traded to them. They could do a deal and not take on his money. Ainge is trying to use the Wallace contract to bring back a power forward or center to replace Wallace and the injured Kendrick Perkins(notes).

The Celtics could then use their midlevel exception for a different player. Several sources believe that Ainge’s target is Orlando’s J.J. Redick(notes), who is a restricted free agent.

Boston has strong interest in Brad Miller in free agency and could try to acquire Dallas center Erick Dampier(notes).

If you are a team and Ainge offers this to you, any fear that Rasheed does a 180 at some point later this offseason and decides that walking away from $13 million is stupid, sticking the new team with that contract?

Would be classic.

The Knicks better get out of that meeting with Lebron and sign someone... I would so love watching all these teams that tanked for years get dick.
In the end, we're all "only for a limited time," you guys.

I would prefer that 80-90% of the teams tanking on purpose get shafted with horrible rosters. It's not a philosophy that the league can endorse (or else end up with a half dozen more apathetic Philadelphia type fan bases)

Even the Celtics tank job prior to the 2007 season and the Spurs ride to get Timmah didn't cover up the fact that they had some quality peices in place. The Knicks last year were complete garbage, and the Heat sans Wade are a joke.

Gah, this whole process makes me sick.

WojYahooNBA The biggest winner today? It could be restricted free agent Josh Childress, who knows Atlanta will never match with a new Joe Johnson deal.

WojYahooNBA If elite small forwards keep re-signing with their teams, Childress could make a triumphant return from Greece in a $40 million contract.

Galley Boys are slop on top of a so-so burger and a bun you coulde get from a Covneninet food mart generic pack. They the Antoine Joubert of burgers; soft, sloppy, oozing grease and cheap sauce and extremely overrated by a biased fan base. Proof that if you throw enough cheap sauce shit on a burger you still can't overcome the lame burger. -JB

4 years is too long for a Darko deal, but the $ amounts arent that bad. My question is, what becomes now of Al Jefferson? Clearly Kahn is saying he wants Darko to be his man at Center, with K-Love at the 4. Does this signing mean Big Al goes on the block?

OT: David Kahn is Isiah Thomas disguised as a Jew. Its only a matter of time before a Target Center employee accuses him of sexual assault.

Yes, this. Tanking sucks. Starting with the 03/04 season, any team that tanks is a joke and deserves to suck.

Yeah, the $ for Darko and Gooden are fine, but both should have been two year deals at most.

That said, Kahn could have had Cousins for four years for $14MM.

That face alone makes the Darko deal indefensible.

Oh and if the Hornets agree to dump CP3 and Okafuck for nothing but huge $$$$ savings I'll cut Shinn's head off personally.

You'd probably have to get in line behind the entire city of New Orleans. And maybe some of Charlotte as well.

Shinn is a lame duck owner in Nola. He didn't call the shots on the coaching search, so I'm not sure if he's running the show on player transaction either. I'm thinking if the Knicks and Nets miss out on this big free agent bonanza they may overpay for CP3 or Collison on the back end.

And holy crap was I hitting the pipe on my Rudy Gay take. I must not have been following the UFA class close enough, cause I didn't expect him to get max $$.

In retrospect, we should've seen this coming.

- The megastars narrow their search and concentrate on mo' money.

- Teams that raped the roster for cap space only to find there won't be a Bron under the free agency tree start scrambling to fill the roster voids.

- As a result, other teams hoping to retain their own second/third tier stars like Rudy Gay and Joe Johnson throw the max at them to keep from having them leave for max contracts elsewhere.

- The remaining crap free agents make out like Ron Mercer and Larry Hughes.

- The owners cry poverty and overpaid contracts during next year's lockout.
