Many wonder who is going to play center on this team. They might end up playing either J.J. Hickson or Anderson Varejao at that spot. Neither is a legitimate option.
The Cavs would like to sign center Sasha Kahn, the former Kansas big man who has been playing for CSKA Moscow the last two years.
"Two years ago our scouts were saying, ‘Sasha Kahn, Sasha Kahn,' " Grant said. "I'm like, ‘Are you sure?' I'm watching him and he can't really do some things. Now, he's one of the best centers in Europe."

Steve Kyler - 06/30/2010 11:05pm EST-
The Boston Celtics may have some competition for Ray Allen.
Word is the Cavaliers and HEAT have both tried to set up early free agent meetings with Ray-Ray. If the Celtics think they can get him back cheap, they may be in for a surprise.

Sometime today the #Cavs are expected to contact Brendan Haywood. There is a chance of a double sign-and-trade to Dallas with Shaq.

Also, expect the #Cavs to contact forward Al Harrington. OK, that's all the stuff I've been holding based on sources. Discuss.

The Cavs obviously will have interest in Chris Bosh & Amare' Stoudemire, but likely would not get serious unless they re-sign LeBron.

#Cavs also expected to contact shooting guards Ray Allen, John Salmons and Mike Miller at some point on July 1.

Byron Scott's agent, Brian McInerney, said Thursday that Scott has agreed to "essential terms (of a contract), with details to be worked out throughout the night" to coach the Cavaliers next season.
Brian Shaw removed his name from consideration on Wednesday, clearing the way for Scott to take the job. While it's still not a done deal, it does sound like Scott will coach the Cavs next year, with or without LeBron James. Mcinerney said late on Wednesday that Scott was not in negotiations with the Cavs, but that could have been because the team was having trouble reaching him via telephone.

This. I'd still do the trade (what would it be? JJ, West, Boobie?) even if we don't re-sign LeBron, cuz I think Collison is a stud. But that contract is Gawd-awful.

Caught that too. One of these things is not like the others.
Bosh is gone. Everyone else could stay put, to near universal disappointment.

Celtics looking to trade Wallace’s contract
Boston Celtics GM Danny Ainge is trying to use Rasheed Wallace’s(notes) contract in trade talks, a move that would allow the Celtics to keep their midlevel exception, league sources said.
Wallace has yet to file retirement papers, so the $6.32 million owed him next season and $6.79 million in 2011-12 would come off a team’s books after Wallace is traded to them. They could do a deal and not take on his money. Ainge is trying to use the Wallace contract to bring back a power forward or center to replace Wallace and the injured Kendrick Perkins(notes).
The Celtics could then use their midlevel exception for a different player. Several sources believe that Ainge’s target is Orlando’s J.J. Redick(notes), who is a restricted free agent.
Boston has strong interest in Brad Miller in free agency and could try to acquire Dallas center Erick Dampier(notes).

WojYahooNBA The biggest winner today? It could be restricted free agent Josh Childress, who knows Atlanta will never match with a new Joe Johnson deal.

WojYahooNBA If elite small forwards keep re-signing with their teams, Childress could make a triumphant return from Greece in a $40 million contract.

I would prefer that 80-90% of the teams tanking on purpose get shafted with horrible rosters. It's not a philosophy that the league can endorse (or else end up with a half dozen more apathetic Philadelphia type fan bases)
Even the Celtics tank job prior to the 2007 season and the Spurs ride to get Timmah didn't cover up the fact that they had some quality peices in place. The Knicks last year were complete garbage, and the Heat sans Wade are a joke.
Gah, this whole process makes me sick.

You'd probably have to get in line behind the entire city of New Orleans. And maybe some of Charlotte as well.
