Could be the Cavs organization with holding info for the time being, who knows.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Brian Shaw may be close to becoming the Cavaliers next head coach but it is not done yet.

According to sources, Shaw had a positive interview with the team Monday and early Tuesday and he emerged as the frontrunner to replace Mike Brown. Shaw has impressed the Cavs with not only his focus on defense and knowledge of how the triangle offense would work with LeBron James, but also his confidence in dealing with players because of his 14-year history in the league.

But Cavs sources said Tuesday morning that Shaw had not been formally offered the job and was not close to finalizing a contract with the team.

AOL Fanhouse and the Los Angeles Times reported that Shaw was close to accepting the job. The Times quoted Shaw's agent, L.A.-based attorney Jerome Stanley, as saying Shaw was close to an agreement.

The Cavs do want to have a coach in place by Thursday, the start of free agency, and it is likely they want to make the decision today. The signs point to Shaw being that man.

With all the crap that's being put out there, I wanted to wait for someone close to the Cavs to mention it. Like I said earlier, I think it was the Cavs FO trying to keep it quiet so they wouldn't have another Izzo situation.

Good news if this does indeed get done today.

Winter is not alone is his assessment. Former Cav Ira Newble, now learning the system with the Lakers, and former Chicago Bull Brad Sellers agree with him.

"If you take LeBron [James] off the ball, he's going to be unstoppable because he's cutting, he's slashing, he's running off curls," Newble said. "He's too big to be guarded. It would take him off the ball and make it tough to double team him ... and if he's not double teamed, he's going to score every time. He can score with a double team. Without a double team, there's nobody on the floor who could guard him. I think that offense would definitely help him."

I like the few things I have heard about Shaw. In fact it's the only coach that I really liked the idea of getting, save for a Jackson or Brown, but if you thought they were options you might as well have added Poppovich or Wooden.

No idea why some are wanting Scott. The guys burnt out at every stop from what I've read.

Shaw is the former player that everyone's been wanting so that the players have respect for him. He's been Phil Jackson's assistant coach for the past 6 seasons (which probably isn't easy). Triangle offense? Better then LeISO, IMHO. Was part of the 2000-2002 Laker three-peat, so he's got the hardware as a player as well as the Kobe back-to-backs this past two years. Was probably waiting for the job with the Lake Show to open up- if he comes here, Phil's going to be around for a bit longer.

Sounds like a winner to me- and someone who wouldn't come over to the Cavs if he hadn't heard some stuff about LeBron sticking around. Why move to Cleveland and coach scrubs when you can stay in LA and coach Kobe in a year or two on the outside? (Sure, Kobe will be nearly done by then, but it's still LA).

How would the triangle work without LeBron? Is the question I would like to hear. During its life in the NBA, or at least while Jackson has used it, he usually had the best or second best player in the league. Early Lakers runs had best center in the league. How does the triangle make the team better, elevate individual players of debatable skill level, to team success? How does it hide weaknesses?

To everything else, :shoulder shrug:. Tired of trying to analyze potential moves, and am ready to move on to rationalizing real ones...
