CHI-TOWN PIZZA!?!

Unread postby 216 » Fri Jun 11, 2010 11:07 pm

Going to Chi next weekend. I should be in town from Thur the 18th until about Sat 20th.

A few years ago a buddy of mine went on a weekend trip to Chi he brought me back a slice of the best pizza I have ever tasted. I cant remember for the life of me what the name of the pizza place was he got it from maybe Gino's or Giodanos, I do remember him telling me it was authentic chicago deep dish. And I cant put my finger on what it was but something was different about this pizza I dont know maybe the sauce was sweeter but it was like no pizza I ever ate before!!!

Anyone here got any recomendations/ideas where I might be able find a slice of this bliss?? Plan on staying Downtown any suggestions on Food?Hotels? sights?

Giordanos is what you're thinking of. On Rush St. Out of this world.

Lou Malnatis too.

Lived there for 3 years. Malnati's or nothing. Don't waste your time with the other. Get the butter crust, it's worth it. Gino's sucks and Giordono's is blah. Malnati's is where its at. Depending on where you are staying the one River North is going to be your best bet. May be able to walk, but depends on where you stay.

If you want suggestions for the best BBQ or Taco's you have ever seen pm me. Both will change your life, but you need the time to visit. Both are off the El though.

Echo Malnati's > Uno's > Goirdano's. Although my fave was the Art of Pizza up on Damen (not deep dish)? Be prepared to wait a 45 mins for a deep dish so put you order ASAP, if possible.

The real official food of Chicago is the burrito. Best, authentic immigrant Mexi is under the El track stations. So good, so cheap, so dirty, open very late.

Have fun.

That shit they got in Chicago ain't pizza.

It's good and all, but it's not pizza.

And yeah Malnati's is pretty good.

WTF do you know about pizza, Herr Donatos? You live in the most generic non-ethnic gentrified place on the planet that makes up ethnic areas just to charge 200K for a walk up to gays and yuppies. Like Springfield on steroids lucky enough to have state gubmint and the finest educational institution football can create.

But from pizza?

Sheeeeit.

Not a real wop south of Rt 30. maybe some krauts like you lost outside the nati, but a legit dago? You jest.

And yeah, Ziner is right on with Malnatis. Butter crust and sausage mang. Bring extra statins.

And I never remember eating a Chicago Burrito.

Chicago : burrito :: Flats in the day : gyro

Word is, they just miiiiiiiiiiiight have a couple decent steaks in town there as well.

lol.

I know more about pizza than you. Much more in fact. Donatos, Pizz Hut, Papa Johns, and Dominos all suck and I don't eat their shit food. Adriatico's is where it's at. Or Iacono's. Or Benito's.

We got real ethnic places to eat, it just takes a functioning brain to find them.

We got lots of real Italians too, they might be outnumbered by the Irish and Germans, but they're here. Trust me, I married one and they hate the Olive Garden. Plus I didn't realize you'e an expert on what a "real" Italian is (which you're not, you don't have a clue what you're talking about, obviously.). You want REAL Dago food? you go to Trattoria Roma or one of the 20+ other non generic places to eat. Ethnic places are here, just because you're too dumb or ignorant to find them doesn't mean they don't exist.

We don't have alot of eastern European restaurants, which is what I wish we had more of.

Still jealous about them goverment jobs and our school, eh?

You really don't know shit about the city, do you? You should come down and hang out, bring the old lady, i'll buy you a dozen beers and we can go get some Vietnamese food at Indochine Cafe, my treat.

Damn. Trattoria Roma. Love that place.

Also loved Panzera's pizza when we lived in Grandview.

Yeah... Sorry. I'm just really defensive about my hometown. As i'm sure most NEO people are too. I'd love to nuke some of these damn Applebees and put up a Croat, Czech, or Polish place.

Far and away the best frozen pizza on the market imo.

Kinda pricey though.

Eff that, its all dough. Tombstone kicks its' ass. Cardboard crust and all. I would know I am quite the connoisseur of frozen pizza when I am drunk, but only if I cant make it to Del Taco.

Edit: When I was in Chicago and I could get it Home Run Inn, it kicked both of their asses

Yes.... Tombstone is for drunks. I like DiGiornos crust, I know it's thick, but it reminds me of this pizza they used to serve us for high school lunch (insert joke here).

Deep fried pizza rolls FTW.

Regarding Chicago burritos- this place is the shiz.
Image

Back on topic- Chicago deep dish pizza is good, but it's for tourists and long lunches. It is a "must try once" kinda thing. Have at it.

Re: Drunk pizza. Z- you love the greasy stuff, I respect that.

Bonus topic: My sister gave me a pizza stone and it changed my life. If you are still baking pizza on your rack, you might as well stick your head in the oven, too.

Chicago has Gino's and Original Gino's. They have a war going on.

CDT - agreed on Iacono's pizza..good stuff and 15 minutes from my house. Although, we have a place in Delaware called Shorty's. I think it is top three of pizza I have had in my lifetime.

Apparently you're not doing it often enough or correctly.

Don't be a puss. Put that oven on self-clean and climb in.

Germans and their ovens. There's a really distasteful joke there somewhere.

Yes Shorty's is fantastic. Paynes has pretty good food, although I haven't had their pizza yet, they had great Italian sub and Taco Salad (weird combo, I know). Someone said some place called Delco (I think) drive-thru had really good pizza too up there). Oh and that Corner Cafe on SR-36 was really good too.

I just like the fumes.

Did you know Germans are banned from selling ovens on TV in Europe?
