A bit slow out of the gates, due to the fact that they chose to pick up immediately after the end of Season 2, so we had to go with a lot of transition stuff.

Jason was the highlight of the show again...poor kid...if you can't get it up for a three-way, you are totally screwed up in the head.

20 minutes in, and I'm wanting someone to bitchslap Tara into next week. I'm hoping the whole plot line of her hooking up with a vampire makes a difference to her, because she's getting more and more obnoxious.

Looks like the Queen vampire is going to be problems for Eric, as it turns out she's peddling V because she's a spoiled bitch who wants to stay rich and continue spending money like she's in Congress.

And it's only one episode, but it looks like there is a chance that Bill may be getting his macho back on, and won't be such a whiny wuss this year.

I enjoyed the episode, it was fun to be back in the south again. I liked Tara in season one, now she is just whiny and annoying. Bring back the conflicted hothead she used to be. Her Mom can go away at this point, she served her purpose of the "how Tara became effed up" backstory.

Jessica rocks. I hope they "ahem" show more of her but I like her new bumbling vampire character; sort of like when spiderman first got his powers.

Estonain dancers also were a nice add.

So Mitch any chance we will get True Blood or Mad Men recaps now that 24 is done (thank god)?

Agree on both accounts..

Not sure if its the actress or the storyline but Tara is dragging this whole show down. Quicker she is gone, the better. Give more time to Pam. She is a good character and I find her attractive.

Going to be interesting to see how Eric and the Queen deal with the V trafficking and a possible war with werewolves. A lot to juggle and in the end I bet someone pays with their life.

Also, as much as I hate Tara, I'm hoping it gets more interesting once she starts getting involved with a vampire this year (James Frain, who was Audrey's ex-husband in "24" and was also Thomas Cromwell in "The Tudors").

I thought it was a much better episode...but I'll agree that I'm not that much into Sam and his white trash family.

I'm curious about those Sookie files as well. It does look very much like Bill might have been sent to make contact with Sookie, although he probably didn't plan on falling for her.

This whole bit with the King of Mississippi looks to be good. And as was mentioned in the EW recap, Bill has already been 100 times more interesting this season than he was ALL of last season.

James Frain is excellent. I did read that he was supposed to be a "vampire detective", so we'll see where he goes with that.

Jason/Andy? Bleh. But that chick he found near the meth lab is supposed to play a role this year...no idea what, though.

And Jessica becomes more and more endearing to me each week. Too bad her character is supposed to be 16...I'd have no problem with some major nude scenes with her.

I've really liked the start to this season. Like the drama between the Mississippi and Louisiana vamps with Bill in the middle. Like the werewolf angle. Like Jessica being featured a little more with Pam as her mentor. Jason Stackhouse and Lafayette are such great characters. And I love the way southerners say "Sookie".

And the whole Eric/Bill thing is gonna get awesome.

I don't know...I'm seeing lots of opportunities for some people on the show.

Sookie is going to go through some major adjustments. The sooner the better, because it's a pain watching her when she's in her whinny mode.

Eric is going to get the best chance to really break out this year. That whole fantasy thing with Sookie being HIS fantasy was a shocker. And now he's got to find a way to save Pam from the Magister.

Lafayette's got some great options this year as well, as does Jessica.

OTOH, you're right when it comes to Tara, Jason, and Sam. Not into Tara as The Victim again; Jason blackmailing Andy to become a cop, or the whole White Trash Family thing with Sam.

But it's early, so I'll hang in there.

And wait for Mad Men to start on the 25th. Gives me something else to watch at 10 PM, because frankly, I keep trying to get into "Hung", but I just don't like it. And "Entourage" is off to a very slow start (granted, it's just been two episodes, but they weren't that good).

It had a semi-rough transition due to it's up to the minute time-line between seasons but has been laying groundwork for more of the same this season. Also, having caught some spoilers there are some interesting turns coming w/ a few of the characters.

That said, once you accomplish 360 degree head turning vampire sex, what is really left?

Although at this stage in the game True Blood has more Emmy nominations this year then The Wire got during its duration.

I watched the first season of John From Cincy, and I still have no fuckin clue what the hell was going on in that damn show.

This has now gotten interesting.

Loved the Viking flashback with Eric. Looks like he finally figured out who murdered his father, mother, and baby brother. This is not going to turn out well at the end for the King of Mississippi. I think Eric will be the leader in deposing him...but he's going to have to make a deal with Bill to do so.

Sookie manages to re-create her super hand zapping power on Cooter. The King is impressed.

Franklin is one majorly phucked up vampire. So does he really turn Tara? I thought I read once where Lafayette may end up getting turned, so this would be a shock.

What's the deal with Sam's sperm donor daddy and his rage against the little brother? I'm hoping this means that this storyline may start to finally get interesting.

No idea about Jason's new banging partner Crystal. Hopefully something more interesting that the story line of Jason being a deputy.

Whenever the story takes place in Bon Temps, it sucks...ex: Sam's family, Jason being a cop/new girlfriend, Lafayette/"Geezus", Arlene pregnancy & wasting all screen time with Jessica who was one of my fave characters last season...

Yet I've enjoyed all the stories away from BT...

BTW, Franklin might be the best character yet and Joe Lee, the scariest

Best season of any show IMO ... since the one season of The Wire where they focused on the young kids. Ending is setting up to be off the charts good.

If so, then we'll be having a big switch in plot lines...maybe focusing on whatever "powers" Sookie has, as well as the mystery/supernatural abiliities of Jason's object of affection (not sure why he's hung up on her...she does absolutely nothing for me...just not into heroin chic).

Not really a fan of this season as the storylines could use some work. This says it better than I can:

Can anything save this dog-fighting plotline?
The Sam Merlotte story has been slow and tedious for a few episodes now, so the revelation that his parents are pimping out his shape-shifting brother as a battling pit bull at least ends the long tease. But isn't dog fighting a little, well, 2007? I wonder if this drama will help explain what's really going on with the minor and mysteriously unexplored rivalry between high school quarterbacks. After twisting his throwing arm against a car, Jason tells the new star that he doesn't like him and is going to figure out why. Might he be the next Michael Vick? Could the former Falcon make a cameo as a shape-shifter? We can dream.

What we learned this week.

Sookie's blood can make it so vampires can survive the daylight.

One step closer to them telling us "what Sookie is" (known to anyone who knows of the vastly inferior books).

Franklin is definitely not dead, since his head wasn't totally removed. You can tell that Tara knows, after the "oh, shit!" look she gave when Sookie told her what dead vampires looked like (spewing gooey blood everywhere).

Russell has just set himself up to be dethroned after the murder of the magister. Eric and Sophie-Anne will make sure of that.

Lorena will not be missed.

Neither will Cooter. But his crazy assed white trash wolf girlfriend is going to be fun to watch as she tries to get her revenge on Alcide.

From the previews and the hints given out, Bill is personna non grata with Sookie now. Does she get closer to Eric? Is that a good idea now that he knows of her secret?

The dogfighting plot line keeps getting less and less interesting.

As does Jason/Crystal.

Fast forward on a DVR is good...got to skip over most of the Sam and Jason plot lines to get to the good stuff (I went back later to make sure I didn't miss anything. I didn't).
