Protesting in the streets while carrying Communist flags is nothing less than 'providing aid and comfort to the enemy'
I may have taken the word out of context some but you have to agree, it made for a good counter to Neil Young's tripe....
I get that some people actually believe that the protests helped end the war....and I vehemently disagree to no end as would likely 90% of all Nam Vets, esp those not REMF's.
Believe me you'll not present a scenerio to me that hasn't been rehashed in my own mind continuously over the last 40 yrs of VN in any way shape form
I spent yrs arguing Vietnam from both sides of the issue...yes it was just, no it wasn't, yes we lost, no we didn't...woulda shoulda coulda....
Not a one of them was on 'our' or 'my' side
They were the enemy as sure as was Sir Charles and the NVA
Nixon gets all the blame for VN and thats just a train load of unmitigated bullshit...he ended it. Its why every time I see his name and VN I'm going to mention Truman, Kennedy and Johnson....and that POS Jimmah Carter who gave amnesty to yellow the bellies
You let me know dude the next time you talk to a Nam POW and he agrees with your take on protests and protestors
Not that it isn't their right...it is...just like it is for the Robert Byrd and the Klan...but it is what it is. Counterproductive to the military mission
It wasn't about their fucking morality or the justness of the war...it was about getting drafted and having to leave behind all that partying and all those drugs
In any event, very very very very few know what happened in the field on a day to day basis. Most have no clue as to the good that we did there and when people research the war, I doubt they're looking for good. They want My Lai and Hamburger Hill
Every time we enetered a ville it was a parade of villagers bringing their sick to us medics for treatment...sometimes even arranging medivacs for kids with tumors the size of their heads, cleft palates, diseases etc etc etc
I showed you Peek and wabo some pics of burning hooches and airstikes, but I've yet to download the ones of kids and simple living among the villagers who were always glad to have US around
Even when I finally got to the rear we went out on what were called Medcaps in jeeps filled with supplies to treat sick and wounded....
America was at the Mall then, too
No, the protests had only one successful outcome to their credit.
They permitted the North to drag out negotiations for nearly 2 yrs over the shape of the Peace Table...and for those that think this is FMB hyperbole, its not....its a fact
I agree, KSU was a monumetal clusterfuck of epic proportion....but I mostly blame the rioters and the adminstration and disagree that most see the NG troops as you do
There is no forgiveness from FMB or his Bro's for draft dodgers or war protestors. They were NOT on our side and guys like Blumenthal, a 6 time dodger who now wants to be one of US, just rekindle the loathing and contempt for his kind
In any event, it is impossible to say you support the troops while carrying placards and the flags of the enemy in parades protesting the mission they are in the midst of undertaking
There is a natural disconnect between those who've served violently and those who never served at all...it cannot be breached with a set of jumper cables
so I understand how and why some have a prob with me and/or mine
Too much to say, too little time, and I hate typing...
...and I have to start getting ready to go to DC and protest next week....
