Also I watched those freaking Phills, Mills, and Hill games just like I watch these. I have a weakness for basketball and Cleveland sports team, and without a doubt in my mind this team, minus LeBron, is still far and ahead of those, (not coaching) and they were consistent 7-8 seeds. Again I am not claiming great, but 12 wins and gone in 3 years is absurd.

Sure Gilbert paid an awesome premium when he bought the Cavaliers, and losing LeBron would be a major blow, but in the time since Gilbert bought the team I am sure the overall value of even the worst NBA franchise has risen... That totally excludes his casino tie in...

Probably shouldn't try a serious reply at this point, but what the heck. By my eye, if LeBron walks (assuming Shaq and Z go with him - certain on Shaq, likely on Z) we'd have about $48 million in committed salaries (which is managable) including several half way decent ending contracts (West, Parker, Telfair, maybe Powe), and no draft picks this June. Our starting lineup would probably be something like: Mo Williams, Delonte West, Moon, Hickson and Jamison. AV is first off the bench along with Parker and Gibson and J. Williams. We'd be seriously height deficient but if we brought in an offensive minded coach who likes to run the floor we could score points. It's not a playoff team, even 8th seed, but it's not a 17 win team, either, IMhO. If we only bring in short term, lower priced, free agent(s) the salary situation should be such that Dan G. can spring for a draft pick or two in the next few years. And we'd have Jamison's big ending contract for Feb. 2012. Not sure how you get to the promised land that way, but Rondo was a 21st pick so if you got a guy who knows what he's doing you can make progress.

Use the MLE on a center, and I think you can fight for the 8 seed for the next 2 years while you wait for the contracts to expire. Hell, maybe without LBJ we can see if Mo has any actual ability. Yeah, we should be out of luxury tax hell if LBJ bolts, so maybe we could spring for a pick with all the salary/tax we aren't paying in 10-11. Mo, Delonte, Boobie, Parker, Moon, AV, JJ, Hickson, Powe, Green, Jawad isn't a terrible team. Not a good team, just not a terrible team. Add a SF or C with the MLE, and address the other need in the draft with whatever pick we can convince Gilbert to purchase. Tanking to get better picks for the next 2-3 years sounds fun, I just don't think Gilbert wants to be a part of that culture. We'll be looking at the bottom of the lottery or sneaking into the #8 for the next 2 years. Hopefully in that time we can acquire some young pieces and spend some of that free money in free agency on a big name once the big deals expire. Unlike most, I'm not doom and gloom if he bolts. No we won't be good right away, and we might never have a shot at 60 wins without LBJ, but I think they'll attempt to assemble the team in the correct way. Not short term fixes trying to convince the King not to bolt. If this happens, I want TBO here to see it through. I think he did everything he could to work with what assets we had. I think he could do well rebuilding and (hopefully) have some mid 1st round picks to play around with.

He doesn't initiate offense no matter where he's at. That's why he's shooting point guard. He got out of his game this Celtic series trying to play make, and ended up dribbling the ball off his foot, losing it out of bounds or throwing it away.

But I'll say this, they better get an initiator with the team you have there, because without LBJ getting lay-ups and dunks for Hickson and Andy, your starting forwards are going to combine for ten a game.

Not gonna happen unless we do a sign and trade of LBJ. If we don't resign LeBron (or sign and trade) then we are looking at a 25 win team. We have assembled this roster to play off of LeBron, not without him. We'll have a top 5 pick next season.

FWIW, this is what I'd be attempting this off season if we lose LBJ. Our only assets right now are Delonte's expiring contract ($4.7 mill), Anthony Parker's expiring contract ($2.9 mill), Andy, and Gilbert's deep pockets. To me, these are our only current options to improve the roster, and let's be clear we need to infuse some young talent right away. I didn't include JJ because I'm assuming we'd keep him if we lost LBJ.

He didn't get along with Don Nelson, but he's one of the most talented players in the league. I'd love to add him, and I'd be willing to add another big contract like Maggette's if we needed to. He is very raw, and will need to be placed in a situation where he can make mistakes without getting yanked, but he has elite length and athleticism.

Huge and very athletic. Showed very little last season, but showed a little at the end of the season. Gasol was good for them last season, and they may be willing to trade him. It's worth looking into, but again we'd need a coaching staff that could develop him and deal with his mistakes. Because there will be a ton.

Memphis doesn't have any bad contracts like GS, though.
