Misunderstood song lyrics

Unread postby jb » Tue Apr 20, 2010 12:03 pm

You know how you can listn to songs and think you hear lyrics that make no sene, and yer wrong about the lyrics? Anyone got any good ones?

I was flipping Sirius around and landed on an oldies for a minute (I listen to anything) , and thought I heard the lyrics "the dog fuckin' died, the dog fuckin' died" in Mr Bojangles by the NG Dirt Band. Got me to thinking.

My fav I never understood has to be in Jack and Diane, where for years I thought mellonhead was singing, "Let the Taco Bell come and save my soullllowolll".

I once knew a girl who thought Rusted Root's Send me on my Way was really "Simeon the Whale".

Yours?

Tons of them.

My favorite band Acid Bath has lyrics I thought was "Psychedelic rhythmic junkies" was really "Circle jerkin redneck truckers".

Clutch's 10001101 I thought was "A pretty wife that won't come near it" was really "Radioactive don't come near it".

Alice in Chains and Tool have a billion for me too.

I had a buddy in college who thought that Steve Miller's Jet Airliner lyric was this:

"Big 'Ole Jed had a light on"...dont carry me too far away. It makes no sense but that's what he thought.

Now, the hell of it is that I had never heard that. I always had the lyric right. But now I can't NOT hear the "Big 'Ole Jed" lyric. I guarantee that if you think of this the next time you hear that song it will be ruined for you for all eternity.

At least it's Steve Miller and not anything important.

^I can appreciate this because I always sang along with effed up words as a kid and never knew what he was saying until one day my aunt kicked me in the nads and told me it was the friggin title that SM was singing...

My wife's always on my ass over my lyrical ear-wax...

Meat Loaf- Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad: I put it in and I pulled it out, Just to show you how much I care

Alice In Chains- Rooster: My butt is breathing it's dying breath

As a teenager I always thought Jimmy was singing in Margaritaville, Stepped on a Pop Tart & There's boob's in the blender?

My little cousin used to always sing "We didn't fart, you liar" to Billy Joel's We Didn't Start The Fire

The classic is Jimi Hendrix in "Purple Rain":

"'Scuse me, while I kiss this guy"

Thanks to Howard Stern, every time I hear Billy Joel's "Movin' Out (Anthony's Song)" I hear:

"A ni&&er can't drive with a broken back"

You mean you've never heard of them?

Acid Bath was a seminal American sludge metal band from Houma, Louisiana that was active from 1991 to 1997. Acid Bath combined doom metal roots with influences from black metal, death metal, hardcore and blues-rock. In a Pit Magazine interview, vocalist Dax Riggs classified their sound as "death rock" (referring to death as a dominant lyrical theme, rather than deathrock), and also classified the band's music as a blending of stoner metal and doom metal.[citation needed]

I have a couple from my youth that are oddball.

No idea why but that one Doobie Bros' song I always thought the guy was saying "whoaaaltz to the music" instead of "whoa-ooh-o, Listen to the music". Waltz to the Music? Now every time I hear that song I wonder what the frig I was thinking.

Also I never paid attention to the fact that the name of the song was "Rhiannon" and thought fleetwood mac/Stevie was saying something like "yeaaaaa---nooooo" during the "Rhiannon" lyric.

Acid Bath owns. The best metal band of all time. No surprise 99% of people haven't heard of them, 2 albums 3 years, then breaking up after their bassist and his folks died in a car crash after being hit by a drunk driver. I'm glad they're unknown, it makes it something special for the fans that love the band. Their lyrics are pretty hard to understand, but Riggs was and still is a sensational singer.

Sometimes when I hears Ozzy's "No More Tears", it sounds like he's saying "no more jizz".

CCR- "there's a bathroom on the right" instead of "there's a bad moon on the rise"

Blink 182- "who's my asian friend" instead of "what's my age again"

Temptations- "You know you could've been some bird doo" instead of "You know you could've been some perfume"

First, great thread. I had to shut the office door for a couple of these. Also never heard of Acid Bath, although per their wiki site they originated about 30 miles from where I grew up. I'll have to sample some shit online when I get a chance.
