Stopped at Rosie's Wine Store in Lakewood and picked up a bottle of St. Bernardus Abbey Ale for tonight.

Heard it is good, anyone heard about this stuff?

Personally, I've been an anti Sams snob, but in a world of brewtards adding chicks spices and calling it "summer", big ups to Noble Pils. It's a BEER. Clean, crisp, phresh.

I've found my summer beer. Step yo game up Grt Lakes. Cammomile is for period relief. Grass is for horse and hippies. Not my beer. Thank you.

Had that Widmer last weekend for the first time and it wasnt too shabby. Also for the first time I had Ranger IPA from New Belgium (apparently the only beer they have put hops in becuase it was pretty solid) as well as the Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA. Both were quite tasty.

Went to my buddys house today, his parents mailed him some Dortmunder, first few since xmas, twas delicious.

You know this may just be the Boulder hippies rubbing off on me, but canned micros are quite the rage out here because of them being more eco-friendly, and I actually like them. Partly because I cant notice the difference in taste, partly because they are easier to sneak in to golf bags than bottles, partly because I dont have to empty the trash as much, and lastly if it is better for the enviroment why the hell not. JB pick your jaw up.

I cant believe more of these companies haven't started using cans, they have to be cheaper than the bottles and and companies like Great Lakes are all about the enviroment. I bet it becomes more prevalent. My guess is their operations are already setup for bottles and switching to cans would be a investment they dont really want to take right now.

That stuff is great. I like the Small Batch 471 better. A bar out here on the east side actually got a keg of it last summer and it was fantastic. Now, the store I go to which has a ridiculous selection is selling the 471 in bottles. We should all be thankful this 4th of July.

Another area we have explored is extreme ABV brewing. Using clowns, penguins and polar bears we have frozen, hopped and oak aged stronger beers than have ever before been made in the history of beer. This program has parented the infamous Tokyo*, Tactical Nuclear Penguin and Sink the Bismarck! The End of History, at 55%, is the final instalment of our efforts to redefine the limits of contemporary brewing.

This blond Belgian ale is infused with nettles from the Scottish Highlands and Fresh juniper berries. Only 12 bottles have been made and each comes with its own certificate and is presented in a stuffed stoat or grey squirrel. The striking packaging was created by a very talented taxidermist and all the animals used were road kill. This release is a limited run of 11 bottles, 7 stoats and 4 grey squirrels. Each ones comes with its own certificate of authenticity.

I'm hoping some places in the area bring in some Avery Kaiser or Hacker-Pschorr. Kaiser is a ridiculous malt-bomb for a marzen punching in at 10% ABV. Great stuff.

Holy shit, I just tried the Sierra Nevada 30th anniversary brew (Black Barleywine I think) and it was pretty mind-blowing.

At over 10%, the stuff is smoother than you could expect and just flat out good in it's own right.

All I did was split one bottle at lunch and I was thoroughly impressed right from the first sip.

Their Oktoberfest is nothing to write home about either. Pales in comparison to Hofbrau, Flying Dog, Avery, and Spatan versions. I did however try their 25th Anniversary Ale and it is WIN.

For all of you guys drinking this stuff, try Hacker-Pschorr's version. More balanced than Spatan but enough maltiness to still give it a real fall flavor.



Also for anyone who likes Dogfish Head 90 minute, and strong IPAs in general, their Burton Baton is available right now. Its actually 2 different blends of 90 minute - 50% fresh and 50% aged in oak barrels for 6 months. Its 90 minute but smoother with a high ABV kick.

their house beers are usually excellent, but my girlfriend was nice enough to drop me off there before she went to the mall and i was lucky enough to try 3 beers by pizza part and 1 by coronado, which big beer fans would notice don't distribute to ohio. had the pizza port riptide (a fresh hop ipa), pizza port the jetty (a regular ipa) pizza port killer dana (an imperial ipa) and coronado idiot imperial ipa. i'd rate the corondao idiot with the best IIPA's i've ever had. all were excellent, but i was just excited to have these beers that i figure i wouldn't have anytime soon otherwise. i can only guess that the owner of this fatheads has friends in san diego, which means i will be joining their e-mail list!

Been to the one on Carson St in Pittsburgh (what can I say, I have to go there on occsion?) Great place.

Next time, order their Cuban sandwhich with a IPA. MMMmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

My sister lives in Carlsbad within walking distance from the PP. Can just go there and spend a day on the Pacific, smash some fish tacos at Fidels norte or whatever the freak they call it now, and then slam IPA after IPA all within a 3 mile round trip walk. Coaster train runs to SD to boot.

It's an AWESOME vacation to visit.
