Favorite Board Games?

Been playing a bunch of games the past few months with our nieces, nephews & cuzz's...

Got a pretty cool new game called Sequence (don't know how long it's been out?)...Pretty cool card game with both luck & strategy...Great for team play...

Nothing like sitting in front of the fireplace in the winter with an old fashioned pasttime...

Monopoly has always been the standard but its also a game rarly finished due to its length.

Risk is great but same as above.

To me, playing with my sons, CLUE has always held up. Its different each time and can be played within 30 minutes.

Is Strat-o-matic baseball/football considered board games? I lost much of my youth playing those games :)

Most of the board games that I've played have been replaced by multi-player video games and more "interactive" games like Catchphrase or Cranium. Catchphrase is a personal favorite...it's approximately a 6" electronic disc. There's a screen in the middle, and a term will pop up. Let's say it's "broccoli"...the goal for the person with the disc is to describe "broccoli" in order to get his/her team to guess "broccoli". Sort of a vocal charades meets hot potato type of game. A group of 6 or 8 is best...sit in a circle, and every other person is on a team.

I believe I've played sequence and enjoyed it. I don't remember the exacts, but I think it's sort of a grid board with playing cards, right? Oh, and I've also been playing more card games than board games as well. Mainly simple stuff like gin rummy or spades.

Used to really like Monopoly...guess the oversatuation of crap like Obamaopoly & Twilightopoly has soured me...

yep, Sequence has a layout grid...gotta make a few 5 space sequences with the cards in your hand...Jacks are wild...kinda like connect connect 4...everyone we've played with has enjoyed it

Love card games...grew up around them my whole childhood...My grandparents used to teach us everything except I never could grasp Bridge? Really miss playing Pinnacle...Nobody seems to know how to play it and now that my old folks have passed on I don't know anyone who plays it (other than my wife)

I like sequence a lot with the family.

We used to play a game called outburst at family birthday parties and such. You split into 2 teams (we usually went men against women) and team 1 gets a card with a topic on it...say "beer slogans" or something. There are 10 answers on the card. The other team then has a few minutes to guess as many as they can. At the end you get points for as many as you guess right that are on the card.

Invariably there are all sorts of arguments about what counts, what was close enough, there are times when someone swears that they guessed one but the other team didn't mark it, etc. We used to call it "the friend maker game."

Good times.

Other than that I can't wait for my kid to be old enough to play monopoly, clue, life, trivial pursuit, etc. I love that stuff.

As far as playing something with an adult friend I couldn't agree more. I used to play all of the time with my friend Scott.

What we ran into is that it seemed like the team that went first was almost always the winner. Anybody else get that?

Played this for the first time, in like, 30 years last month with my 4 year old niece...

Was really excited to play it when she asked...

For me personally, I am all about scrabble. And we had all the "versions" of scrabble. "Upwords" (where you can change words by stacking letters, and another version (did it have reversible tiles? - don't remember).

There was a time I was into chess, and backgammon.

However, I have some great-memory games with the family.
When I was young I remember playing hands down, mouse trap and sorry with my family. Precious memories.

When my own kids were little, we played the same games, adding in Disney trivia, and others. I have great memories of my recently deceased father playing board games with my kids. My kids would ALWAYS stack the cards against dad, and he acted like he could never figure it out.

Anyone ever play a game called "Balderdash"? Played it growing up ... fun as hell. Takes crazy obscure words, and you have to make up fake definitions for them. When you have the button, you read em and the others try and guess which one is right. Get points for guessing the right definition. Also get points when people guess your fake definition.

Really fun. Been prolly 7-8 years since I played it. More of an adult game.

Balderdash turns into a blast during holidays. We play it almost every year, and I don't think we've ever really kept score. Just drink a lot and make up insane definitions for things. Spizzerinctum- a carbonated enema.

I am a huge fan of Pinochle as well. After college I rented a house with 3 other guys and one summer we started playing almost every night after work until 11 or later. I think we kept it up for a year or so. I haven't played in a long time. One time we were all back together again at a friends wedding and we wanted to get a game going but couldn't find a pinochle deck. i still have a deck of pinochle cards somewhere. ahhh, good times...

Scrabble with the family, euchre with friends. Both can get pretty intense.

Sometimes when I get together with my friends for a night of drinking we break out Curses which is a lot of fun if you're playing with the right people (introverts really bring it down). Been playing a lot of Fluxx lately too.

Don't believe I saw Boggle mentioned, but that gets a lot of play around here. Last Word is also pretty fun.

However, the new hotness is Telestrations. It's amazing how some innocuous word can produce R- or even NC-17-rated drawings. Seriously funny, especially with alcohol involved.
